San Vero Milis Between History and Coastline

Churches and Sacred Art
The Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo was probably built between the late 16th and early 17th century. In 1668, a side aisle was added. Particularly striking is the elaborately decorated portal with its tympanum made of green trachyte. The construction period, extension and design of the entrance thus offer different perspectives on the building's history.
The Chiesa di Santa Sofia was built in 1604. Its façade is considered typical of Sardinian eclecticism of that period. Restoration work also brought back eight liturgical silver pieces from Sardinian workshops; the items are dated variously to the 16th through 18th centuries. This building therefore combines architectural features with sacred objects from several centuries.
The historical spectrum also includes Nuraghe s’Urachi, which is one of Sardinia's most significant Nuragic monuments. It broadens the view beyond church architecture to another formative chapter in Sardinia's cultural history.
Different Beaches and Coastal Landscapes
The coastline also offers a variety of landscapes. Near S’anea Scoada, small coves lie at the foot of the limestone cliffs of Su Tingiosu. Putzu Idu has a fine quartz-sand beach almost 2 km long, extending as far as Mandriola. The southern section of the almost six-kilometre-long Is Arenas beach lies in San Vero Milis. Vernaccia and Homemade Breadmaking
The preserved tradition of homemade breadmaking is part of the local identity. Together with Zeddiani and Baratili San Pietro, San Vero Milis belongs to the Vernaccia Triangle. Vernaccia is considered a dry white wine with a deep golden colour and amber reflections, a delicate almond aroma and an alcohol content of 15 to 16%. Bread and wine thus provide two tangible ways to experience local everyday and culinary culture.
Nature and Craft Experiences
A nature-focused highlight is Sale ‘e Porcus, a protected LIPU oasis. Another suitable activity is rush weaving for individuals, couples and small groups; children aged 10 and over may take part when accompanied.
