Tresnuraghes between the Coast and Sardinian History
Accommodation in Tresnuraghes
Tresnuraghes brings together the coast, Sardinian history and archaeological structures. The selection ranges from Porto Alabe and the two towers Torre Foghe and Torre Columbargia to nuraghi and a dolmen, as well as churches and the Museo Casa Deriu. Porto Alabe and the Coastal Path
Porto Alabe is a broad beach with firm sand whose colours range from white through golden yellow to ochre. Behind the beach are dunes covered in Mediterranean vegetation. Torre Columbargia is visible from Porto Alabe; the tower can be reached on foot via the coastal path. This gives you a combination of beach scenery, visual connections and the option of a coastal hike.
Towers and Prehistoric Structures
Torre Foghe stands at the mouth of the Rio Mannu. Historically, it defended the river mouth against landings. Nuraghe Nani is a trilobed nuraghe on the road to San Marco. Its preserved tholos vault and internal staircase lead to the roof, from which you can look out over the Rio Mannu. About 6 km from Tresnuraghes, on the road towards San Marco, lies Pischina ‘e Sassa, a giant's tomb from the Nuragic period.
Other stone monuments include the Su juu marmuradu dolmen in Mara Pala. It consists of three elongated, vertically erected monoliths and a cover slab above them. Together, these destinations showcase different forms of Sardinian architectural and cultural history, without requiring you to commit to a single sightseeing focus.
Churches and Festivals
A festival is held at the Chiesa di San Marco twice a year: on 25 April and on the first Sunday in September. The Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire was rebuilt in 1835 and has eight side chapels. The Chiesa di San Giorgio has a single-nave interior with four chapels on each side. Its square presbytery lies beneath a hemispherical dome that ends in a broad semicircular apse; externally, the building is defined by a strictly neoclassical façade and two symmetrical bell towers.
Museo Casa Deriu and Cartiera
The Museo Casa Deriu is housed in a historic residence built in the 18th century and offers an insight into Sardinian society in the 19th century. The upper floor contains a historical exhibition route with an extensive collection of 19th-century magazines and newspapers. The museum can be visited as part of guided tours; reservations can be made using the museum's contact details.
The Cartiera is locally known by the Sardinian name “sa fabbrica de su paberi”. It is difficult to access, but visible at the foot of a clearing near the rural sanctuary of San Marco. Tresnuraghes is also a stop on the Trenino Verde tourist railway line. When choosing your hotel, you can therefore weigh up the beach, coastal path, archaeological sites, churches and museum according to your preferred travel rhythm.
