Beaches, Coves and Special Landscapes

La Pelosa is known for its clear, very shallow water extending for many dozens of metres and its fine white sand. At La Pelosetta, you will also find a shallow, sandy seabed suitable for swimming and relaxing. At low tide, the small island off La Pelosetta can be reached on foot. Punta Negra offers clear waters and a species-rich seabed for swimming and snorkelling; at Cala Lupo, clear, deep-blue waters with a species-rich seabed invite you to snorkel and dive. The cove on the west coast has medium-grained golden sand, rocks and Mediterranean maquis.

Nature remains a defining feature away from the beaches too: the Cesaraccio and Pilo ponds form a natural oasis inhabited by purple herons, little egrets and kingfishers. The Stintino area includes three important natural habitats classified as Sites of Community Importance, or SIC, and incorporated into the Natura 2000 network. The peregrine falcon nests in rock crevices at Capo Falcone; the rare Eleonora's falcon is also found there.

Trails for Walks and Bike Rides

Stintino is part of the Sentieri della Sardegna network and therefore has marked, safe trails for excursions. The trail at Stagno di Casaraccio is 1.7 km long, presents no particular difficulties in terms of either gradient or surface, and can be followed on foot or by bicycle. A well-marked, easy trail to Torre del Falcone is 2.2 km long and can also be explored on foot or by bicycle. One trail offers views over the entire Gulf of Asinara and Stintino's west coast.

Sea, Excursions and Sailing Tradition

A maritime passenger service operates between Stintino and Asinara. Asinara National Park can be reached directly from Stintino; from April to October, direct departures are available for excursions. With Pescaturismo, you can experience the daily life of local fishermen aboard traditional boats and explore the crystal-clear waters of the Gulf of Asinara. At Il Gabbiano beach, the Windsurf Center offers windsurfing and sailing courses for all levels.

The Regata della vela latina was established in 1983 to preserve surviving boats with lateen sails and revive interest in this maritime heritage of history and knowledge. The Porto Museo delle Vele Latine in Porto Minori, which opened in April 2023, houses several distinctive gozzi boats from Stintino's seafaring tradition. The Palio Remiero is organised every year on 8 September by the Canottieri Stintino sports association on the occasion of the patron saint's festival.

History of the Town and Coast

Torre della Pelosa controlled the Strait of Asinara and maintained visual contact with the towers on Isola Piana and at Capo Falcone. It was probably built before 1578. At the Museo della Tonnara, a multimedia journey through the history of tuna fishing in the Gulf of Asinara awaits you. Exhibits include fishing equipment, diaries, newspaper articles, clothing from the “Mattanza”, boat replicas and works by Sardinian artists.

The “Gente di Tonnara” exhibition traces the history of the town of Stintino and its inhabitants. It is set up in the town's streets beside the homes of former tuna fishermen. Le Saline beach is also home to a military base from the Second World War, with around 25 positions distributed between Le Saline and Monti Frattu.

Getting Around Stintino

The approximately 3.5 km road connects the town of Stintino with La Pelosa; shuttle buses operate along this route. Capo Falcone can be reached from Stintino via the road to La Pelosa after approximately five kilometres.
