Lascari between Coast, Cultural Heritage and Madonie
Lascari between Hills and Coast
Lascari lies on a green ridge touched by the Colluzzo and Calcavecchio streams; the sea is about 2.5 km away. From the Sant’Andrea hilltop, the Lascari area can be viewed in all its diversity. The landscape, coast and wide-ranging views give the town a clear spatial orientation.
Getting There and Local Orientation
Lascari has a railway station on the Palermo–Messina railway line. In addition, AST bus services operate to and from Lascari. Both forms of transport are useful for orienting yourself during your trip.
History, Archives and Sacred Art
The fortified Casale Santa Eufemia was founded in the 12th or 13th century and served the Aragonese rulers as a seasonal residence. MuVi Lascari preserves archival documents and manuscripts dating from 1693 to the first half of the 20th century. In the “History and Cultural Heritage” section, it includes 12 themed rooms; MuVi regularly organizes the exhibition “Lascari, Historical and Documentary Routes”, dedicated to learning about and making use of the local archival holdings.
The Chiesa San Michele Arcangelo has a Latin-cross floor plan and three naves. It contains two large Baroque paliotti made of polychrome marble. They date from the late 17th or early 18th century and were created using the “marmi mischi” technique. The mural “Piccolo” honors Giuseppe Di Matteo and all innocent victims of the Mafia. “La Comunità ” uses local faces from the MuVi Lascari photo library as symbols of collective identity.
Beaches on the Tyrrhenian Coast
The Lascari coastline is about 3 km long. The Salinelle sandy beach and the seaside resort of Gorgo Lungo are located on Lascari’s Tyrrhenian coast. At the beaches of Salinelle, you can swim, take long walks, watch sunsets and relax. Days by the coast can combine activity with peaceful moments by the sea.
Madonie and Excursions
Lascari is considered a starting point for excursions into the heart of Parco delle Madonie, which is about 30 km away. These include Piano Zucchi and Piano Battaglia. Thus, alongside its connection to the coast, Lascari can also be planned as a base for excursions.
Local Cuisine and Communal Dining
Lascari’s agriculture is associated with citrus fruits, lemons and high-quality extra virgin olive oil. The cultivation of citrus fruits and the production of lemons and olive oil were once important agricultural activities. Lascari’s cuisine combines garden produce, wild greens and the flavors of the sea. At the Tavolata di San Giuseppe, a communal outdoor meal with around 500 seats, participants are served five of the seven traditional dishes.
When choosing accommodation in Lascari, you can weigh these themes according to your own pace of travel: culture, coast, nature and local cuisine. The railway station and AST bus services complement this local orientation.
