Mühlwald: Mühlwalder See, Valley Trails and Water Culture

Mühlwalder See lies at the far end of the valley, just before Mühlwald/Selva dei Molini. The small reservoir at an altitude of around 1,220 m creates a thematic link between water, trails and culture. The hike to Raschtl Waterfall also begins at Mühlwalder See near Meggima. Raschtl Waterfall is a secluded waterfall deep in the forest above Mühlwald/Selva dei Molini.

Landscape between farms and meadows

The landscape on the two slopes surrounding the valley of Selva dei Molini is characterized by farms and flowering meadows. Together with the reservoir at the end of the valley and the waterfall in the forest, the surroundings reveal a variety of distinct landscapes. If you would like to experience nature in more than one place during your trip, you will find open slopes, bodies of water and a secluded woodland setting here, each offering a clearly different impression.

Short tours and themed trails

The circular trail around the Mühlwalder reservoir is considered a short tour. The hike to Raschtl Waterfall begins at Mühlwalder See (Meggima) and follows the yellow signs marked “R-Raschtl-Wasserfälle”. The Selva dei Molini valley also has several themed trails where you can get to know the valley more closely. This gives you a choice of a compact route by the water, a signposted hike and trails with a stronger connection to the valley.

Getting around by bus and parking

The “Mühlwaldersee/Lago di Selva dei Molini” bus stop is served by bus route 451 and is about a one-minute walk from Mühlwalder See. Parking is available for visitors to Mühlwalder See at the Meggima car park by the lake. After a hike through the Selva dei Molini valley, the return journey by bus route 451 takes 10 minutes. This means that when planning your trip, you can take the return bus journey into account alongside the route itself.

Neves Reservoir: mountain road and dam

Access to the Neves Reservoir and the dam is barrier-free and well signposted. In summer, the dam can be crossed on foot. Also in summer, the Neves Reservoir can be reached from Lappago via a narrow mountain road subject to a toll. For this excursion, the seasonal access and the option of crossing the dam are important points to bear in mind for orientation.

Winter, church and water culture

At the “Snow & Fun Tamarix” Family Park, children can try out various winter sports. In Mühlwald, the parish church of St. Gertraud was consecrated on 1 September 1838. Since 2010, the “Magia dell'Acqua” museum has presented the creative and destructive forces of water. The “Magia dell'Acqua” museum trail is located in the old parish cellar in Lappago. The range of experiences thus extends from winter sports for children and sacred history to an exploration of the effects of water.
