Pfalzen Between Nature and Local History

Pfalzen is a destination for anyone who wants to combine nature trails, scenic impressions and historical connections in one stay. The LandArt Trail, Issinger Weiher, churches in Pfalzen and its hamlets, as well as Sichelburg, each offer a different focus.

Trails for Walks and Active Days

The LandArt Trail is an easy, family-friendly themed trail. It leads from Pfalzen's sports zone through the forest to Issinger Weiher. The trail is suitable for strollers; there are benches along the route and a drinking fountain at the starting point in the sports zone. Works of art made from natural materials and integrated into the surrounding landscape accompany the trail.

The Pfalzen Panorama Trail leads through meadows, along the edge of the forest and past wayside crosses, chapels and farmhouses. Along the way, it offers views of the village of Pfalzen and Kronplatz. The trail starts at the Sichelburg Restaurant in the centre of Pfalzen. The Four Churches Trail leads through Pfalzen and includes the Parish Church of St Cyriacus and the Holy Family.

For a day by the water, Issinger Weiher bathing lake is another specific destination: it offers swimming and paddling. KRONaction, a high-rope course, is located directly at the bathing lake near Issing/Pfalzen. KRONaction is offered as a family activity for children and adults.

For mountain bikers, the Pitzinger Alm Tour leads from the sports field in Pfalzen via MTB Route No. 441 to Pitzinger Alm. The tour offers views of alpine pastures, forests and the surrounding mountains, providing a different experience from the family-friendly trails around Pfalzen.

Culture in Pfalzen and Issing

In Issing, Bergila's distilling tradition dates back to 1912. St Nicholas Church in Issing displays a restored and partially reconstructed clockwork mechanism from its 1548 tower clock. A receipt dated 1459 for the painting of the keystones above this church's Gothic ribbed vault is the oldest confirmed document of Michael Pacher's artistic work.

The Parish Church of St Cyriacus and the Holy Family houses an altarpiece by Karl von Henrici depicting the martyrdom of Saint Cyriacus. At St Valentine's Church in Greinwalden, a pentagonal fresco on the southern exterior façade was commissioned in 1434 by Hans Mair im Feld and his wife Margareth. Sichelburg in Pfalzen has been extensively renovated; the Sichelburg estate was once the ancestral seat of the Lords of Pfalzen.

When choosing a hotel in Pfalzen, you can match the various starting points to your own daily itinerary: the Panorama Trail begins in the centre, the LandArt Trail in the sports zone and the Pitzinger Alm Tour at the sports field. The cultural destinations in Pfalzen, Issing and Greinwalden complement the nature and active offerings with historical impressions.
