Riscone: Between the High Plateau, Kronplatz and Cultural Landscape
Riscone lies south of Brunico on a high plateau at the foot of Plan de Corones. Here, you can combine the convenience of finding your way around a manageable village with trails, mountain lifts, culture and winter sports. The lifts in Riscone are considered one of the most important gateways to Plan de Corones. At the same time, the CRON4 indoor swimming pool is located in the centre of Riscone, so travel planning includes a specific connection to the village as well as the mountain destinations.
Hiking trails from the village centre to the high plateau
Several trails show Riscone and its surroundings from different perspectives. The AVS trail begins at the cable-car valley station in Riscone-Reischach and follows trail no. 6 through the forest to Kronplatz. The Concordia 360° Trail is an easy circular route around the 2,275-metre-high Kronplatz plateau and can be reached by cable car from Riscone-Reischach.
Shorter or more village-oriented tours are also part of the destination. The circular trail from Riscone begins and ends at the church in the village centre and leads through Reischach and the surrounding cultural landscape. Along this circular route is the „Kappler Stöckl“ chapel, which serves as a resting point. The panoramic trail begins near the Kneipp facility and leads to „Maria unterm Stoan“ or to the barbecue area. Those looking for a downhill hike can take the Plan de Corones–Santo Stefano–Riscone route, which follows trails 8, 4 and 7 through meadows and forests.
Art and culture in the mountain landscape
The cultural attractions are not limited to the village. The LUMEN Museum is located at the summit of Kronplatz. Also situated at an altitude of 2,275 metres is Via Artis, an open-air art gallery with a 7.2-kilometre circular route. Works of art are integrated into the hiking trails around Reischach, allowing nature and cultural experiences to be combined along various routes. The MMM Corones can be reached by cable car from the direction of Brunico/Riscone to the summit of Plan de Corones.
Cycling, golf and winter trails
For cyclists, the descent of the Herrnsteig Trail offers specific figures: it is 8 kilometres long, covers 1,300 metres of elevation gain and runs along the northern slope of the mountain. To reach the Herrnsteig Trail, the journey from Riscone by gondola lift to the summit of Plan de Corones takes around 20 minutes.
In winter, the cross-country skiing area of Riscone includes the Reiperting, Riscone and S. Stefano routes. Near the Riscone sports area, the Reischach/Riscone cross-country ski trail runs as a circular route through snow-covered fields and meadows. The Korer toboggan run descends for over 1 kilometre from the mountain station of the Korer gondola lift to the valley station, has an elevation difference of 150 metres and is considered particularly suitable for families with children. In addition, the training facilities of Golf Club Pustertal include a driving range, a chipping green, a practice bunker, a putting green and a spacious pitching area.
Which location suits your stay
When choosing a hotel in Riscone, you can align the focus of your trip with specific points of reference: the village centre with its church, CRON4 and the Chiesa stop, the mountain-lift access in Riscone-Reischach, or the trails and destinations on the high plateau. For connections with Brunico, Citybus 420.1 is relevant; it connects Brunico with the Chiesa stop in Riscone.
