Easy Trails with Views over the Passiria Valley

Anyone who wants to get to know Prenn will find various paths through the landscape. The walking trail to the mountain village of Prenn begins at the mountain station of the Verdins-Tall cable car and leads to Prenn as an easy, almost level hike. Along the way, it offers views over the Passiria Valley. There is also a free car park at the Verdins cable-car station. This makes it an interesting starting point if you prefer a manageable hike with far-reaching views.

Routes via Prenn and Verdins

The hiking route from Oberkirn via Prenn and Untertall to Verdins runs along the southern slope of Tallner Berg. This route reaches Prenn via Trail No. 40A, which branches downhill after the church. There is also an option for the hike from Klammeben to Prenn starting from Schenna: the route can be reached by taking the Verdins cable car and the Tall-Grube chairlift.

Verdins as a Starting Point

The starting point of the hike to Prenn near Verdins can also be reached by public transport. Bus route 231 from Merano to Schenna/Verdins and hiking bus 234 from Schenna to Verdins are available for this purpose. Depending on the route you choose, you can combine the journey with a hike and include the route via Verdins in your day’s itinerary.

Church and Watermill

Prenn is home to the parish church of St. John and Paul. It is considered an idyllic little church and forms a distinctive landmark along the hiking route that leads to Prenn via Trail No. 40A. Near the Sterneck inn in Prenn, on the road towards Hochwies, you will also find the restored Tonigbauernmühle watermill. The church and mill provide two distinct cultural points of interest in the village.

Family Trail and Local Flavours

There is a public children’s playground next to the church in Prenn. It is located 100 metres from Mountain Lodge Prennanger. An easy family hike leads to Mountain Lodge Prennanger in Prenn in around 20 minutes. At Mountain Lodge Prennanger, typical South Tyrolean specialities are served, including regional speck, cheese and mountain milk, as well as homemade bread, cakes and jams. This allows you to combine exercise, a break and regional cuisine in a day trip.

Winter Hike in the Hirzer Area

For the colder season, the winter hiking trail in the Hirzer area is a good option. It is well prepared and suitable for families with children. A toboggan can be rented at the Sterneck inn for the descent into the valley. The winter trail therefore complements the summer walking and hiking routes with its own way for families to experience the mountain area.
