San Felice: Felixer Waterfall, Lake and Monte Macaion

San Felice is situated amid meadows and forests on the gently sloping ridge of Monte Macaion. The village combines natural attractions, marked hiking trails, churches and traditional farm cuisine. The Felixer Waterfall and Felixer Lake define the natural side of the area, complemented by trails to Lago di Tret and Monte Macaion.

Landscape of Meadows, Forest and Water

Felixer Lake, also known as Lake Tret, lies in Deutschnonsberg northeast of San Felice. It is situated at an elevation of 1,604 m and is open for swimming. In 1974, the area was placed under nature conservation protection by the South Tyrolean provincial government. Swimming is therefore permitted in a body of water whose surrounding area is also protected as a nature reserve.

The Felixer Waterfall plunges 75 metres vertically from a rocky outcrop into the depths. The marked trail to the waterfall leads via a structure with 170 steps to viewing platforms below the main waterfall.

Hikes with Different Levels of Difficulty

The circular hike from San Felice via Schönegg to Lago di Tret is 12.7 km long, involves 519 metres of elevation gain and is of medium difficulty.

The route from San Felice to Monte Macaion is 13.3 km long, involves 729 metres of elevation gain and is also of medium difficulty. In direct comparison, it is 0.6 km longer and involves 210 metres more elevation gain than the circular hike to Lago di Tret. When planning a day of hiking, this provides a choice of two trails starting in San Felice, with different lengths and elevation gains.

Churches and Regional Culture

The parish church of San Felice is dedicated to Saint Felix of Nola, who is regarded as the patron saint of domestic animals. The Church of San Felice da Nola dates back to the 18th century.

A church dedicated to Saint Christopher is a worthwhile excursion destination. In the vicinity of Malgasott, there is also the Church of Saint Christopher, whose building contains valuable frescoes. Arrival and Regional Routes

Bus route 246 connects Lana, Caprile, Passo Palade and Senale with San Felice in Alta Val di Non. The road over Passo Palade near San Felice is popular with cyclists and motorcyclists. When planning your journey, you can therefore take both the bus connection and the road over Passo Palade into account.
