Carano combines history, local everyday culture, and paths through the landscape. The first documented reference dates back to 1188. If you are looking for specific experiences on a trip, the themes here range from the church and house museum to forest routes, the weekly market, and public transport connections.

Church and Local History

The Church of San Nicolò di Carano was consecrated in 1193 and rebuilt in the 16th century. It has three naves; the apse contains a crucifix and a Madonna del Rosario by Antonio Longo from 1796. If you are interested in religious architecture and art, you will find dates and specific works together in one place here.

The old Ceva spring provides sulphate-rich calcium-magnesium water. Since the mid-18th century, the water has been attributed with healing properties. It was drunk and used for traditional baths, including steam baths.

Casa Begna and Regional Everyday Culture

In the centre of Carano is Casa Begna, a house museum in an old farmhouse. It preserves memories of rural life as well as the traditions, customs, and ways of life of Val di Fiemme. For a cultural stay, this insight into everyday life and regional heritage complements the church’s religious artefacts.

Routes through the Forest and Landscape

The Passeggiata dei Pini is an easy 4-kilometre circular trail. It takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes and runs around Dosso di Veronza.

Behind the village of Carano, the Giro del Solombo runs almost entirely through a forest of Norway spruce, Scots pine, and larch trees. The route is varied and offers views of the Lagorai range. Alongside the short circular trail, this provides another landscape route with forest and mountain views to choose from.

If you would like to plan culture and landscape together, you can combine the Church of San Nicolò di Carano and Casa Begna with the Passeggiata dei Pini and Giro del Solombo routes. This creates a day itinerary combining local history, rural everyday life, and a forest landscape with views of the Lagorai range.

Market, Getting There and Walking Tour

The Mercato di Carano takes place on Wednesday mornings, approximately from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., from June to September. It consists of five or six stalls. Carano can be reached from Cavalese by scheduled buses operated by Trentino Trasporti. Market times and the bus connection are therefore two specific points to consider when planning your trip.

In the centre of Ville di Fiemme, the so-called “Cortazze” or “Corti” form a large network of passageways and narrow lanes on the steepest slope. This network facilitates water drainage. Murals and frescoes can be seen on a walk through Ville di Fiemme. The monolithic fountain was built in 1888.

Further destinations to help orient your trip: Darè, Lavis, Coredo, Peio, Grauno, Almazzago, Chiesa, Campodenno.
