Telve combines architectural history with the landscapes of the Lagorai. This transition is particularly evident at the Chiesa dell’Assunzione di Maria: it was first mentioned as early as the 12th century, acquired its present late Baroque appearance in the first half of the 18th century, and its interior is decorated with frescoes by Francesco Chiletto from 1946. Altars and sculptures by the Trentino sculptor Giuseppe Antonio Sartori from the 18th century complement this insight into the town’s history. The Chiesa dell’Assunzione di Maria is indicated as being open to visitors daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Castles, mansions and local history

Castellalto was part of a fortification system in the Telve area. Between 1527 and 1556, Castellalto was considerably expanded by Francesco di Castellalto and transformed into a stately residence. From Parise, a hamlet of Telve, Castellalto can be reached via a walking path. Palazzo Buffa can be traced back through a history spanning more than four centuries.

Villa D’Anna is privately owned and not open to the public; the shop and workshop on the ground floor are exceptions. The Museo degli Usi e Tradizioni Telvate offers another insight into the area’s past. Using historical objects and materials, it reconstructs a wine cellar and a stable. Next to it is a forge for working wood and metal. The Ecomuseo del Lagorai was recognised as an ecomuseum by the province in 2007 and extends across adjoining areas of the municipalities of Telve, Telve di Sopra, Carzano and Torcegno.

Getting to Telve and routes around the town

To travel from Trento, you can take the S.S. 47 della Valsugana towards Padua or Venice, exit at Borgo Valsugana and then follow the signs to Telve. Telve can also be reached by train via the Trento–Venice line, the Valsugana railway. Local buses run from Borgo Valsugana station to the station in Telve.

The Sentiero dei castagni e dei castelli passes through Telve and is almost entirely suitable for mountain biking. From Telve, you can reach Passo Manghen via Val Calamento. It is the only pass connecting the Valsugana and Val di Fiemme through the Lagorai.

Nature at the foot of the Lagorai

The Oasi WWF di Valtrigona is located in the municipality of Telve, in a side valley of Val Calamento at the foot of the Lagorai. The Oasi’s Sentiero Natura leads through quiet larch and Swiss stone pine forests and offers the opportunity to discover high-alpine flora and fauna. If you would like to focus your stay on nature observation and peaceful trails, the landscape takes centre stage here, with its forests and high-alpine flora and fauna.

There is also a lake for sport fishing on the Altopiano di Musiera. The range of destinations around Telve therefore extends from frescoes, altars and historic buildings to forest trails, high-alpine nature and a lake for sport fishing.
