Casalappi amid hills, cycle paths and history
Casalappi amid hills and fields
Antico Borgo Casalappi lies on hills overlooking the island of Elba and is surrounded by fields of wheat, olive trees and sunflowers. Here, your stay combines a rural landscape with expansive views over the surrounding area. The fields and slopes give Casalappi a peaceful, clearly recognizable character and create a fitting setting for days when you would like to combine culture, cycling and regional impressions.
Stone village and Castello di Casalappi
Antico Borgo Casalappi is a stone village dating back to the 10th century. Its lanes, stone buildings and views of the surrounding landscape preserve the atmosphere of old Tuscan farmhouses. Those interested in historic places and traditional architectural styles will find a direct connection to the history of the Borgo in these specific details, without the village losing its rural character.
Castello di Casalappi has more than a thousand years of history and later became the property of the Conti Guidi. Together with the stone village, it forms a historic focal point around Casalappi that can easily be combined with an exploration of the surrounding landscape.
Cycling through the Val di Cornia
One important way to experience the landscape is the predominantly flat cycling route “Nel cuore della Val di Cornia”. It runs between Castello di Casalappi and the vineyards of Monte Peloso, passes through olive groves and vineyards to Castello di Casalappi and the hamlet of San Lorenzo. After crossing the Cornia, the route leads back via Suvereto and runs through vineyards at the foot of Monte Peloso. This connects several characteristic landscape elements of the surrounding area in a single route.
A second cycling loop is called “Tra i borghi della Costa degli Etruschi”. It passes through Casalappi and Cafaggio and then returns in the direction of Venturina Terme. The two routes therefore emphasize different areas: one follows the vineyards and olive-growing landscapes of the Val di Cornia, while the other connects Casalappi with further places along its route.
Cultural destinations in the surrounding area
The ancient site of Miniera del Temperino, the Centro di documentazione di Villa Lanzi museum, the ancient site of Parco Archeominerario di San Silvestro and the Pinacoteca A. Modigliani museum are located in the area around Casalappi. These destinations offer different ways to explore the history, art and cultural setting of the area.
Olive oil and preserved products
From April to October, Poderi di Casalappi offers tastings of olive oil and preserved products at Relais Lungagnola or Agriturismo Le Vecchie Scuole.
Beaches and Mondo Marino
The Mirollino beach, Ultima Spiaggia beach and Mondo Marino Zoo Aquarium are also located in the area around Casalappi.
