Arabba: Mountains, Winter Sports and Historic Trails

Arabba combines winter sports, high-altitude mountain trails and impressive traces of history. The options range from the family-friendly FunPark to via ferratas, scenic routes and old connecting paths. This makes it easy to tailor a stay in Arabba to your own interests – between active days, peaceful landscapes and places of cultural significance.

Winter sports between Arabba and Marmolada

The Arabba FunPark is located at almost 2,000 metres in a sunny and peaceful part of the Arabba-Marmolada ski area. As a family-friendly snow course, it offers small jumps, waves, steep turns and obstacles. The area can be reached by the Le Pale chairlift, which connects Burz with Bec de Roces. In winter, Arabba also offers snowshoe excursions as an alternative to skiing.

The Arabba-Marmolada ski area is directly connected to the Marmolada Glacier. At 3,342 metres, the glacier offers a skiing experience. The Giro della Grande Guerra ski circuit also combines winter sports with history: it passes the remains, trenches and forts from the First World War.

Mountain Trails and Views

For a hike with geological and historical features, the Sentiero Geologico di Arabba begins at the 19th bend of the road to Passo Pordoi. It reaches Lake Col Vescovo via an easy dirt track. The trail includes caves, trenches, a massive flight of steps and a water collection basin dating from the First World War.

The Arabba–Pizac hike reaches Pizac at 2,222 metres. From there, it offers a panorama over the Alto Agordino. From Piza, you can return to Arabba via the Teriòl de le Velme, the so-called Erlenweg No. 699. The Viel dal Pan, on the other hand, is an old path that connected the Ladin areas with the Belluno area and was used by flour merchants.

The via ferratas also give the mountain landscape a historical dimension. The approach to the Ferrata delle Trincee begins in Arabba. From there, you can take the cable car to Porta Vescovo and reach the start of the via ferrata in 15 minutes. The ferrata passes through fortifications and tunnels carved into the rock; side paths lead to machine-gun positions and observation posts on the Marmolada. It ends at Passo Padon, passing the Bivacco Bontadini, which is surrounded by numerous military remains. In the area of the via ferratas around Arabba, the Ferrata Cesare Piazzetta also leads to Piz Boè.

A Place with a Technical and Historical Heritage

Il Vecchio Mulino di Arabba is considered a memorial site and a masterpiece of simple mechanics. Its gears made of very hard wood are still completely intact.

The Panoramic Tour Arabba uses the ski lifts to reach high-altitude viewpoints such as Porta Vescovo and Passo Pordoi. The Sellaronda road cycling circuit also starts and ends in Arabba.
