Trichiana combines a long history of settlement with historic villas, literary heritage and a variety of trails through the landscape. The area has been inhabited since the Mesolithic period; during Roman times, it began to develop further. Today, culture, regional craft and food traditions, and circular trails for hiking, Nordic walking and gravel biking come together here.

Culture and History in Trichiana

Trichiana is known as the Paese del Libro because a national literary prize is awarded there every year. The town is also associated with Tina Merlin, a journalist, writer and partisan who was born in Trichiana. Another historical connection is the villa with barchessa belonging to the former Villa-Polit complex, a villa dating from the late 18th to the 19th century.

In the nearby Villa Piloni-Federici-Foscolo, a plaque displays the Ritmo Bellunese. It is considered one of the earliest attestations of the literary vernacular in Italy. Villa Piloni-Federici-Foscolo is inhabited; visits are available exclusively by prior reservation. The Pieve di San Felice also represents the early history of Valbelluna: it is considered one of the oldest churches in Valbelluna and was an ancient parish church dating from the 6th century.

Circular Trails for Different Interests

The Anello del Giro delle Ville is 10.9 kilometres long and has an average walking time of three hours. Piazza Toni Merlin in Trichiana is indicated as the starting point of the circular trail. The route can be walked year-round and is also suitable for gravel bikes and Nordic walking. Depending on your personal pace, it can therefore be planned as a hiking, walking or cycling tour.

The Anello di Carve is a circular trail of medium difficulty starting in Trichiana. The Anello Brent de l'Art circular trail also begins near the town, in Sant’Antonio Tortal. It passes Brent de l'Art, old lime kilns and the remains of a water mill. If you are planning several trail experiences for your trip, this information provides clear guidance on the starting point, length and character of each route.

Monte Cimone and Winter Landscapes

Monte Cimone reaches 1,294 metres and is the highest point in the municipality of Trichiana. In its vicinity, the foundations of a US Army barracks remain; it was used as a radio relay station during the Cold War. A special natural feature is the La Cascata waterfall attraction: it consists of two waterfalls and turns into an ice sculpture in winter, with water continuing to flow inside it.

Local Products and Crafts

The Latteria Sant'Antonio Tortal is part of the local character. It collects milk from small local farms and processes it into cheese, butter and ricotta. The La Fiorita shop in Trichiana offers local products made from barley, spelt and Sponcio corn, including flour, pasta and biscuits.

Traditional materials also play a role. Intrecci Bellunesi works with straw and softened branches from willow, chestnut and other woody plants. The offered classes teach participants how to twist these materials. This makes it possible to discover Trichiana not only through its landscape and history, but also through regional processing and crafts.

Dolomiti Fantasy

Dolomiti Fantasy was established in 2017 through the collaboration of the team of the newly founded Castle of Fantasy association, the Pro Loco of Trichiana, the former municipality of Trichiana and the Red Phoenix cultural association. Every year, the event holds a cosplay competition, adding a modern event theme to the town's cultural offering.
