Between Stone-Carving Art and Mountain Landscapes

Cencenighe Agordino reveals its character through carved stone, mountain destinations and traditional village events. The stone-carving tradition of Cencenighe Agordino produced fountains, vessels, steps, paving and door thresholds, encompassing both individual everyday objects as well as carved surfaces and structural elements within the townscape.

Stone-Carving Art in the Town Centre

The Museo degli Scalpellini is a small open-air museum in the centre of the Cencenighe Agordino district, just a few steps from the town hall and the “Nof Filò” multipurpose hall. As a small open-air museum, it presents representative examples of a centuries-old local stone-carving tradition. Information panels explain a brief chronology of this activity and its particular characteristics for visitors.

The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio Abate in Cencenighe Agordino dates back to 1250 and was rebuilt in 1723. The church houses a carved wooden altar dating from 1753. Three decades separate the rebuilding from the wooden altar.

Mountains and Trails on Monte Pelsa

The nearby area of Cencenighe Agordino includes the Piz Croce summit, Monte Alto di Pelsa and the Crep di Casamatta summit. La Palazza Alto is located in the area around Cencenighe Agordino. At Monte Pelsa, the Amici della Montagna di Cencenighe Agordino group restored the connecting paths between the various forest clearings in 1992 and created the signposted circular route El troi de le iàl, with labelled clearings.

Cycling Route and Climbing Facility

The “La Valle di Gares e F.lla S.Tomaso E-mtb” e-MTB tour passes through the centre of Cencenighe Agordino and then continues on to Canale d’Agordo. The Falcade Bike Trail reaches Cencenighe Agordino via the old road that descends from Avoscan. The “Falesia dei Mesaroz” climbing facility is also located in the Cros de Not district.

Customs with Fixed Dates

On the eve of Epiphany, 5 January, pavarùi are lit in the villages—fires intended to encourage a good harvest. After the pavarùi fires, gnoch co la puìna, or gnocchi with smoked ricotta, is traditionally served for dinner. On 15 August, after the church service, the male Coscritti take turns carrying the statue of the Madonna in a procession along Via Villagrande. On the eve of San Martino, 10 November, children traditionally go from house to house in the late afternoon, singing rhymes and receiving walnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts, sweets and biscuits in return. These three fixed dates give a stay in Cencenighe Agordino in January, August or November a clear seasonal focus.
