Lorenzago di Cadore combines a distinctive mountain landscape with sites of cultural and historical significance and spiritual destinations. This creates a varied picture for planning your trip: you can combine natural features, churches, museum content and routes with different focuses.

Mountain Landscape and Regional Orientation

The Passo della Mauria lies entirely within the territory of Lorenzago di Cadore. At Monte Mauria, water has carved funnel-shaped sinkholes that give the landscape a distinctive geological form. The Strada Statale 52 is also important for orientation between the regions: via the Passo della Mauria, it connects Cadore with Carnia.

A prominent landmark is the Castello di Mirabello. Dating from 1890, it was built as a summer residence for Giovanni Facheris, a Lombard industrialist and senator of the Kingdom. The Castello di Mirabello is not open for visits; access is reserved for guests. CAI trail 336, classified as a hiking trail, begins there in Lorenzago di Cadore, is 9 kilometres long in total and reaches a maximum elevation of 1,969 metres.

Churches, Art and History

The Chiesa della Madonna della Difesa is one of four votive churches in Cadore dedicated to the Madonna della Difesa. Its origins are connected with the plague of 1511–1512, which claimed the lives of around one third of the population; the church was built afterwards.

The Chiesa Parrocchiale dei Santi Ermagora e Fortunato also preserves various facets of the local cultural heritage. It houses a painting by Cesare Vercello depicting Saint Anthony, as well as several frescoes by Antonio Schiavi. For people with disabilities, the church has a step-free side entrance.

At the Museo dei Papi, you can see photographs from special official and private moments in the life of Karol Wojtyla, as well as valuable objects that belonged to him. Since 2007, it has also included a room dedicated to the presence of Pope Benedict XVI. The Santuario all'aperto di San Giovanni Paolo II Papa hosts religious events, pilgrimages and other moments of spirituality. The Sentiero dei Papi leads to this sanctuary and passes through places where Giovanni Paolo II and Benedict XVI stayed and spent moments in prayer.

Activities in Different Seasons

The Falesia a Croera has several climbing routes for experienced climbers. The ascent to the Ricovero Miaron is part of the “Cadore Regno delle Ciaspe” circuit and can be undertaken with snowshoes or skis.

For a viewpoint, the Big Bench #303 offers a view of Monte Cridola. The Parco dei Sogni is a panoramic road approximately one kilometre long. Depending on your focus, you can therefore discover Lorenzago di Cadore through its mountain formations, art and history, spirituality or sporting routes.
