Pesina Spezie: Discover Wine, Gardens and Churches

Pesina Spezie combines winegrowing, landscaped gardens, sacred sites and paths through the village to create a varied destination. Between Monte Baldo and Lake Garda lie the winery and vineyards of Cantina Gentili. In Pesina itself, a parish church built after 1750, a Romanesque church documented since 1145, a public washhouse and small religious buildings come together. Wine and Gardens in Pesina Spezie

Cantina Gentili offers a visit and tasting experience called “Lake Garda Trip”. It lasts 1.5 hours, is intended for 2 to 20 people and includes four tastings. This allows you to plan a stay in Pesina Spezie with a focus on regional wine culture without reducing the village to a single theme.

Another highlight is the garden of Casa Biasi. It covers more than 16,000 square metres of calcareous soil and is home to a wide variety of herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees. The collections include old and modern roses, citrus fruits, camellias, hellebores and hydrangeas. The garden consists of a romantic park and a Mediterranean garden. Guided tours take place there from May to October and last approximately 90 minutes.

The garden’s origins are also part of its distinctive character: today’s Casa Biasi garden occupies part of the former Brolo of Villa Boldieri – Trentini. From March 1977 onwards, Mario and Luciana Biasi laid it out on a former vineyard. The present garden thus represents both an older local use and a design that began in the second half of the 20th century.

Churches, Art and Small Buildings

The parish church of Pesina was built after 1750 and consecrated on 10 October 1769. In Pesina di Caprino Veronese, there is also a Romanesque church dedicated to Santa Cecilia documented since 1145; it was enlarged in 1460 and dedicated to San Gallo.

The Chiesa di San Gallo houses a high altar by Almerigo Gonzaga, an altarpiece by Giovanni Caliari and a painting of the Virgin Mary and the saints by Agostino Ugolini. Those interested in sacred spaces and their furnishings can include these names and works in their exploration of Pesina. The small Oratorio di San Rocco is a votive chapel on the road leading out of Pesina. In addition, the public washhouse has a rectangular stone basin and marble columns at its corners.

Paths Around the Village

There are several connecting paths for getting around on foot. The Pro Loco C1 route runs from Pesina via Boi, Piozze and Castello and back to Pesina. The “Vie dell’acqua” paths created by the Pro Loco run through Pesina; there is a car park near the sports field. For planning your day, you can therefore choose between a circular route and other paths that run through the village.
