Parish Church and Evolving Local History

The parish church of Terradura, together with its old bell tower, was already mentioned in a statute of Padua dating from 1276. In September 1488, it was consecrated by the Bishop of Padua, Pietro Barbarigo. In 1572, there were frescoes on its main altar. Since 1886, the parish church has been dedicated to the Beata Vergine Immacolata. Several clearly dated records make the church an important gateway to the history of Terradura.

Castello di San Pelagio in Terradura has medieval origins dating back to 1340. Its crenellated tower is regarded as a remnant of the defensive system of the Da Carrara nobles from the mid-14th century against the neighboring lords of Verona, the Scaligeri. The park of San Pelagio includes a labyrinth that connects both to the labyrinths of Venetian villas and to the mythological labyrinth of Knossos, and thus to the myth of Icarus and the history of flight.
