Bonelli between the Po Delta and the beach
Bonelli is a village with typical single-storey delta houses and large cube-shaped chimneys. This distinctive architectural style gives the village a clearly recognizable character and makes it an interesting destination for travellers who want to appreciate not only the landscapes but also the region’s everyday architecture. The surrounding area combines water, sandbanks and paths along the embankment with destinations in the wider region.
By bicycle almost to the river mouth
One of the defining ways to explore the area is the 60 km Anello della Donzella cycle path. It starts in Ca' Tiepolo and ends in Porto Tolle. At the Po di Tolle, the route follows the embankment almost to the river mouth, passes Bonelli and then reaches Barricata Beach. This means the route combines several different landscapes: the course of the river, open sections along the embankment and the transition to the beach. This is particularly interesting if you are planning a cycling trip and want to combine a longer route with a visit to the coast.
Barricata Beach
The beach of Barricata, also known as Spiaggia di Bonelli, is located near Bonelli. It is more than 3,000 m long and lies on the natural sandbank of Scanno Barricata at the mouth of the Po di Tolle. From Via del Mare near Villaggio Barricata, the beach can be reached on foot via a pontoon bridge. The combination of sandbank, river mouth and long stretch of beach makes this an independent landscape feature in the vicinity of Bonelli.
Boats, harbours and excursions on the water
Porto Barricata can be reached via the Po di Tolle and is located about 300 m from the river mouth. It has 285 berths. Porto Barricata also rents boats for up to 5–7 people, allowing visitors to explore the lagoons, canals and sandbanks of the Po Delta. Boats are also available for sport fishing, with an experienced fishing guide available as an optional service. A tourist marina with approximately 500 berths is also located about 1 km from the mouth of the Po delle Tolle. On a boat excursion, the return journey follows the water past the Bastimento and Barricata sandbanks and offers the opportunity to look out for turtles and dolphins.
Other places in the wider region
The Palazzo Camerini and Isola di Polesine are located in the area around Bonelli. Elsewhere in the wider region, you will also find Lido di Pomposa Beach, Lido degli Scacchi Beach, the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea 'Remo Brindisi', the Museo Della Nave Romana and the Manifattura dei Marinati. If you choose a hotel in Bonelli for your trip, your choice of location can therefore reflect different interests: cycling, the beach and the waterscape are just as central as architecture, museums and regional culture.
Other places for orientation: Rosolina Mare, San Martino Di Venezze, Bagnolo Di Po, Pontecchio Polesine, Castelguglielmo Rovigo, Arquà Polesine, Castelnovo Bariano, Scardovari.
