Pontecchio Polesine lies nestled in the tranquil landscape of the Polesine. Dovecote, Villa and Sacred History

An important historical point of reference is the “La Colombaia” Ecomuseum. It is an old dovecote dating from the 17th century, near the Ca’ Salvioni complex. The villa belonging to the complex dates from the 16th century and includes the Oratory of San Giovanni Battista. At this site, Pontecchio Polesine is therefore associated with a dovecote, a villa and an oratory from different historical contexts.

The archpriest church of Pontecchio Polesine, dedicated to Saint Andrew the Apostle, also dates from the 17th century. Among its preserved works of art is a painting by the Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Canal depicting Saint Stephen.

Villa Grimani, now Villa Borile, dates from the 18th century. It stands on the remains of an old Este castle and is flanked by two chapels. This building therefore brings together the later villa, the memory of an earlier fortification and two independent sacred structures.

The permanent exhibition at the “La Colombaia” Ecomuseum covers the history of the Salvioni and Fracasso families, as well as the development of agriculture in the Polesine and the present-day durum wheat production chain for Pasta Fracasso. The grain for this pasta is grown in the fields surrounding the tower. In this way, local family history, agriculture and food production are brought together within a common thematic context.

A Village Festival with a Set Date

If you would like to schedule your trip around a local event, “Pontecchio in Fiera” will take place from 29 May to 7 June 2026 as a traditional village festival. The event is organised by the Consulta delle Associazioni with the support of the Municipality of Pontecchio Polesine.
