Mansuè: Floodplain Landscape, Paths and Historical Testimonies

Between the Town Centre and Prà dei Gai

Mansuè combines a lively connection to everyday life with an expansive landscape and numerous historical testimonies. If you would like to get to know the town in your own way, the weekly market offers a direct insight into local life: it takes place on Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Piazza Francesco Dall’Ongaro.

A recommended visiting itinerary leads from the town centre of Mansuè to Prà dei Gai. The visiting itinerary has a total length of 18 kilometres.

Prà dei Gai and the Casteir River

Prà dei Gai is a 600-hectare natural floodplain landscape with permanent grassland. This makes Mansuè home to a landscape that offers visitors a distinctly different perspective from the historic buildings and churches. The Casteir River of Mansuè is located within Prà dei Gai.

Mansuè&Rosa is also part of this landscape-oriented experience. Mansuè&Rosa is a hiking event in the greenery of Prà dei Gai that is open to everyone. The fifth edition is scheduled for 13 September 2026. The date therefore connects a specific event with the natural area, without implying year-round event operations.

Villas and Older Traces

Villa Calzavara is a two-storey building from the 17th century. Villa Carretta was probably built in 1610 by the Ca’Zorzi family. The differing dates in particular make both buildings interesting to visitors who are interested in the architectural development of the town and its surroundings.

The Tumulo del Rasego offers another historical perspective. It was built by ancestors for ritual and funerary purposes. A solar alignment was also identified between the Casteir of Prà dei Gai and the Tumulo del Rasego. Here, the natural landscape, older architectural history and archaeologically oriented themes emerge as distinct aspects of a stay.

Churches and Art in the Town Area

The Church of Saints Mauro and Macario in Cornarè is an 11th-century sacred building on the historic Via dei Sali. The Church of San Mansueto features a mosaic of Saint Mansueto, created by Lisa Battistuta in 2011, on its façade. Inside, it has a main altar with an artistically designed tabernacle, flanked by two marble angels dating from 1754.

The apse of the Church of San Giorgio in Basalghelle contains a painting by Antonio Morera depicting Saint George against a blue starry sky. Parts of the park and the stables of the original Villa Aganoor, Zecchinato, Arrigoni have been preserved. The remains of the birthplace of Blessed Cosma can also be found at the intersection of Via dei Benedettini and Via Basalghelle.
