Historical Traces Around Vallà

In the landscape west of Vallà lies Ca’ Emiliani. The building is the private oratory of the former Villa Emiliani. It was probably built in 1735 by Francesco Maria Preti and dedicated to Saint Girolamo Emiliani. Human settlement in the Vallà area can be traced back to the Copper Age. This means that the historical horizon extends far beyond individual buildings.

The village of Castelliere is also part of this historical context. Historians consider the fortifications that once existed there to be Lombard structures. They defended a section of the Roman Via Aurelia and Via Postumia. The historical status remains important here: the reference is to former fortifications and their traditional classification, not to a structure that exists today.

The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista, that is, the church of Vallà, was built in the first half of the 18th century based on a design by Francesco Maria Preti. Inside is the fresco “Gloria di San Giovanni Battista” by Giovanni Battista Canal. Architecture and mural painting are directly connected here, giving the history of the village a tangible artistic dimension.

Another independent testimony is the Monumento ai Caduti di Vallà. It consists of a tall stele with a column, a capital decorated with plant motifs and an eagle with outstretched wings. The base stands on three marble steps and includes a marble bas-relief.
