The overarching system of the Laguna di Caorle covers a 5,119-hectare protected wetland; most of it belongs to the Natura 2000 network and is subject to environmental protection. Venetian Traces in the Town Centre

Rio Terrà is a pedestrian street in the town centre. Its name means “filled-in canal” in the Venetian dialect and refers to the former canal at this location. Museum of Shipping and Archaeology

The Museo nazionale di archeologia del mare presents multimedia content on the history of boats on both coasts of the northern Adriatic, the traditions of ancient fishing, the construction of the trabaccolo and various fishing techniques. The museum can be reached on foot from the bus station in just a few minutes; it is also served by the “Museo del Mare” inner-city bus stop.

The museum displays important Roman finds, including information about the Caorle 1 wreck, which still lies several miles offshore from the city, as well as two amphorae from its cargo. Maritime traditions and archaeological evidence thus come together in a specific visitor destination.

Santuario della Madonna dell'Angelo and Duomo di Santo Stefano

The current building of the Santuario della Madonna dell'Angelo dates from 1751. The Duomo di Santo Stefano preserves a wooden crucifix from the 15th century and the Pala d'Oro, a Venetian goldsmith's work from the 13th to 14th century. Both dates show how varied the historical evidence in Caorle is.

Waterfront, Bicycles and Protected Nature

ScoglieraViva is a waterfront promenade where breakwater stones form an open-air sculpture gallery. The Laguna di Caorle is also a protected natural area with characteristic flora and more than 280 recorded migratory and resident bird species. Along its shores, you can explore routes by conventional or electric bicycle; opportunities for birdwatching are also available.

The nearby protected Vallevecchia oasis lies between the sea, lagoon and mainland. Paths there lead through golden dunes, dense pine forests and cultivated fields. The surroundings therefore offer another landscape experience in addition to the Caorle lagoon.

Lagoon by Water and on Foot

Boat trips to the Laguna di Caorle can begin at the small harbour of Caorle. Excursions on the lagoon are offered with the Motonave “Arcobaleno” and the bragozzo “La Serenissima”. At the Casone Didattico, you can enquire about guided tours and educational activities on the history and culture of Caorle's fishermen; schools and groups can book such visits.

A suggested walking route in Caorle can be completed over its entire 14 km length or only in part. This variation in distance leaves room for an extended hike or a shorter exploration.

Fish and Polenta

At the Festa del Pesce, the fishermen themselves prepare fish, which is fried or grilled and served with polenta. The event combines regional cuisine with the fishing tradition, which also plays an important role in the Museo nazionale di archeologia del mare.
