Villa Mocenigo-Biaggini-Ivancich and Venetian Architectural History
The Villa Mocenigo-Biaggini-Ivancich building complex was established on the initiative of the Venetian Mocenigo family towards the end of the 16th century. The preserved Villa Biaggini Mocenigo Ivancich complex includes a centuries-old park, the ruins of two monumental barchesse, the Oratory of San Giuseppe and eight 18th-century statues. The monumental barchesse were added towards the end of the 17th century and attributed to the architect Baldassarre Longhena. At this historic complex, you will therefore encounter several clearly identifiable elements of Venetian architectural and local history.
Historical Traces and Regional Sights
The cultural and historical route “Le Guerre del 900” includes a Cold War bunker near the bridge over the Tagliamento, the Austro-Hungarian Cemetery and the Muro della Storia.
In the vicinity of San Michele al Tagliamento is Castello di Brussa, a sight classified as a castle. Also in the surrounding area are Museo Paleontologico “m. Gortani”, a museum, Museo Nazionale Concordiese, a museum, and Palazzo Valle Carcia, a palace. In the wider regional area, there is also Isola dei Pescatori, a viewpoint.
Waterways and Public Transport Connections
The navigable Litoranea Veneta extends as far as the Bevazzana lock in San Michele al Tagliamento. The Litoranea Veneta was used exclusively for tourism. For Bibione, the Trenitalia stop Latisana-Lignano-Bibione and ATVO are designated as public transport connections. Those wishing to include waterscapes and coastal destinations in their travel plans will therefore find various geographical and thematic points of reference here.
Cycle Path and Valgrande
The completed pedestrian and cycle path along the SP75 connects Pozzi with San Giorgio al Tagliamento. This path includes a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Vidimana drainage ditch. When planning a cycling tour, Pozzi and San Giorgio al Tagliamento are the two specific local references of the completed path. In Valgrande, a guided educational tour suitable for everyone is offered, exploring an old fishing valley and the historical and archaeological site there. This gives you a combination of activity, landscape and vividly presented history.
Beaches and Coastal Area
The beaches Spiaggia di Lignano Sabbiadoro and Spiaggia di Lignano Pineta are located in the vicinity of San Michele al Tagliamento. In the wider regional area, there is Spiaggia di Bibione Pineda, also a beach. Together with the navigable Litoranea Veneta and the public transport connections for Bibione, these destinations can be considered independent focal points of a trip. When choosing your hotel, your personal priorities can therefore be decisive: historic places, waterways and cycle routes, or excursions to beaches and viewpoints.
For further orientation, you can also explore Bibione and Bibione Pineda.
