Pramaggiore between wine, culture and GiraLivenza

Pramaggiore is at the heart of one of Italy’s most important wine-growing areas: the Lison-Pramaggiore DOC Wine Route.

Wine as a local focus

Pramaggiore’s winemaking tradition culminated in 1974 with the recognition of the Lison-Pramaggiore DOC controlled designation of origin.

The Mostra Nazionale dei Vini organises wine promotion programmes, national wine competitions and international oenogastronomic competitions and is the Enoteca Regionale del Veneto. The Fiera Campionaria dei Vini was held at the Mostra Nazionale dei Vini from 1947 onwards. In 1961, it became the Concorso Enologico Nazionale, considered Italy’s oldest wine competition.

At Borgo Stajnbech, guided tours of the winery are available by prior reservation. The Ex latteria sociale offers a different insight into the history of local processing: machinery and equipment for milk processing have been preserved there, including two copper vats.

Exploring the GiraLivenza route

Pramaggiore has been part of the GiraLivenza cycling loop since 2019. The loop enhances and promotes natural and cultural sites in the municipal area, particularly those near the Livenza River.

The GiraLivenza section in Pramaggiore provides access to the Parco di Villa della Pasqua and runs through the park. The route continues towards Belfiore on a cycle path. The GiraLivenza route starts in the centre of Pramaggiore; there, you can use the infopoint in the library.

Churches, mill and ecomuseum

The Chiesa di San Marco Evangelista stands in the centre of Pramaggiore. It was built in the 14th century and is an example of mature Romanesque architecture. The original structure of the Chiesa di San Giacomo in Salvarolo is said to date back to 1016; in the 16th century, it was renovated or rebuilt by the Altan counts. Traces of frescoes depicting the four Evangelists and a wooden crucifix from the 18th century have been preserved in the presbytery.

The Museo Etnografico del Mulino di Belfiore is located in the architectural complex of Villa Dalla Pasqua. Its three buildings are set in a park with centuries-old trees. The museum occupies three floors and contains artefacts and information panels about milling and activities associated with grain cultivation. The Belfiore Mill was already in operation in 1479.

The municipality of Pramaggiore is part of the Ecomuseo Aquae della Venezia Orientale and participates in cultural events and initiatives to promote the municipal area and raise awareness of local activities.

Pramaggiore can be reached by public transport via the Trenitalia station of Portogruaro-Caorle and with ATVO.
