Discover Salzano: Churches, Museums and Nature

Salzano can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: religious buildings, local history, museums and nature observation. Churches and oratories stand alongside a historic silk mill, a romantic park and a Natura 2000 site. This creates a destination where cultural and landscape interests offer different highlights.

Churches and Religious History

The Chiesa di San Bartolomeo Apostolo was built in the first half of the 19th century in the Tuscan neoclassical style. On either side of the entrance portal, two niches contain statues of Saint John the Baptist and Saint Bartholomew. The style and facade decoration give the building a distinctive historical character.

The Museo San Pio X is a parish museum in Salzano dedicated to the life and work of Pope Pius X, Giuseppe Sarto. Giuseppe Sarto, the future Pope Pius X, was parish priest of Salzano from 1867 to 1875. The Santuario di Robegano is the parish church of Robegano and is dedicated to the Beata Vergine delle Grazie. It is also a pilgrimage destination for people from throughout the province.

Other examples of ecclesiastical architectural history include the Oratorio di San Francesco, whose church dates from 1684, as well as Ca' Contarini and the Oratorio di San Francesco as a 17th-century building complex. The Oratorio della Roata is located on the road to Mirano and originally arose as a small 1568 tabernacle featuring a depiction of the Virgin and Child. The Oratorio di Ca' Bozza originally stood beside the 17th-century villa of the Marchesi Bozza.

Filanda Romanin-Jacur and Museum Experience

The Filanda Romanin-Jacur was built by Leone Romanin-Jacur in 1872. It is a historic silk mill with a central building housing the machinery and spinning room, as well as two side wings with porticoes.

The Museo della Filanda di Salzano offers an immersive, multisensory experience in which visitors can directly experience the work carried out in the historic silk mill. At the Filanda Romanin-Jacur, only the rooms housing the museum are open to the public. The Museo della Filanda di Salzano also offers facilitated access for people with disabilities. The Museo San Pio X is considered free of architectural barriers.

Park and Protected Nature

Parco Romanin-Jacur is a 48,000-square-metre romantic park. It was created in 1854 at the request of the new owners, the Jacur family, as a park surrounding the villa. Canals, raised areas of ground, grottoes, paths and dense vegetation shape its character and create a clear contrast with the historic interiors and religious buildings.

Oasi Lycaena is a Natura 2000 site recognized both as a special conservation area and as a special protection area for birds. It provides a habitat for numerous bird species, including night herons, little bitterns, kingfishers, little egrets and herons. Protected species such as the great crested newt, the European pond turtle and the rare large copper butterfly Lycaena dispar also find a habitat there. Oasi Lycaena is scheduled to be open from 5 July 2026 on every first and third Sunday of the month from 09:00 to 18:00.
