Teglio Veneto combines a historic town centre with religious architecture, distinctive landscapes and events that bring local culture to life. The historic centre extends along the Roggia Lugugnana, a river fed by groundwater springs.
Architecture and History in Teglio Veneto
San Giorgio Martire is considered the last Neoclassical example of religious architecture in the Portogruaro area. Around the churchyard of San Giorgio Martire in Teglio Veneto stand the last original trees of the Parco della Rimembranza. The Parco della Rimembranza also contains a permanent memorial plaque that tells the history of the park. The Chiesa di San Giorgio contains a wooden altar with Osvaldo Gortanutti’s altarpiece of the Madonna del Rosario.
The Oratorio di Sant’Antonio Abate also reaches far back into the town’s history: it already existed in the 13th century and was later extended by a Renaissance-style forecourt supported by columns. The Renaissance extension adds another historical layer to the earlier function of the forecourt as a meeting place. In front of the Oratorio, the town’s older residents met to make important decisions for the community.
In Cintello, the Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista provides another cultural highlight. It contains Romanesque frescoes depicting the patriarchs, Saint Christopher and the Kiss of Judas, and stands on the banks of the Lemene River. The church is also connected to the river landscape along the Lemene.
Prati delle Pars and the Gira Tagliamento Route
The Prati delle Pars are an ecological restoration area with meadows, trees, ponds and hedges. At the same time, they form an ecosystem where rare species and protected habitats can be found. The combination of ecological restoration and protected habitats gives the area a clear connection with nature.
Cyclists on the Gira Tagliamento Route can experience the Prati delle Pars.
Cultural Experiences and Local Events
The guided historical and cultural walk is expressly aimed at secondary school classes. It takes visitors through Teglio Veneto and Cintello.
During the Palio dei Mussi, five districts of Teglio Veneto depict the customs, traditions and ways of life of the local community at the beginning of the 20th century. The Palio includes a donkey race on the third Sunday in September along Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Lugugnana, in which children ride without saddles. The date of the race is specifically tied to the third Sunday in September. At the Palio, Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Lugugnana are expressly part of the race section.
Teglio della Poesia is a cultural event encompassing poetry, painting, music and theatre. It takes place every two years in September and alternates with the national Barbazep poetry competition.
The Sagra del Bisà t is an eel festival held as part of Teglio Veneto’s gastronomic events.
