Arsiero Between Valleys, Trails and Forts

Arsiero is a destination for travelers who do not want to experience mountainous landscapes separately from their history. The area is predominantly mountainous and crossed by deep, densely wooded valleys. At the same time, numerous walks and hikes are possible both on the valley floor and in the surrounding mountains. Trails Through the Valley Floor and Mountains

The Pista ciclopedonale ex ferrovia is a walking and cycling path suitable for everyone. If you like to divide your days between walks and hikes, you will find suitable options for planning both on the valley floor and in the surrounding mountains.

The Strada dell’Aralta is closed to unauthorized motor vehicles. The Strada degli Alpini, marked as trail 540, offers a special connection between a trail and military history. It was built in 1909 by Alpini troops on the western slope of Monte Cimone and was created in the period leading up to the First World War. The trail therefore has not only a marker but also a clearly dated history of its origins.

Church and Military Cemetery

The Church of San Michele Arcangelo was built within the walls of the Castle of Arsiero. Its history can be traced back to the 13th century. The church also houses the altarpiece “L’apparizione di San Michele Arcangelo” by Albano Tomaselli. The military cemetery of Arsiero lies on elevated ground and is connected to the municipal cemetery by a broad marble staircase. Its monumental entrance has three arches crowned by slender pinnacles.

Under the monument in the military cemetery lie 403 Italian and 726 Austrian unknown soldiers. Its elevated location, broad marble staircase and monumental entrance give the cemetery a clearly perceptible architectural presence.

Forte Campomolon and Forte Casa Ratti

Forte Campomolon was built from 1912 onward, shortly before the First World War. It is a viewpoint overlooking Tonezza, the Altipiani, Vigolana, Valdastico, the Posina Valley and the plain. Forte Casa Ratti was built between 1906 and 1908 as a fortified battery at an altitude of 350 meters. The installation was intended to control movements from the upper Val d’Astico. Forte Casa Ratti was blown up on June 25 and turned into a ruin. Together with San Michele Arcangelo, the military cemetery and the Strada degli Alpini, Arsiero presents itself as a destination where landscapes and concrete historical sites are closely connected.
