Vulcano: Trails, Villas and Culture in Sarcedo

Vulcano has a specific street connection: in the area of Vulcano, Via delle Monache reaches the industrial zone via a roundabout with Via Asiago. Another focal point is in the municipality of Sarcedo. There, hilly landscapes, historic villas, archaeological evidence and trails with different surfaces come together.

Villas from different periods

In the municipality of Sarcedo, Villa Tretti stands on the site of the former castle of Sarcedo. The neoclassical-inspired villa was built in 1884 on Bodo Hill, enjoys panoramic views and is surrounded by a park. Villa Zironda, also known as Ca’ Dotta, dates from the mid-15th century, was extended in 1891 and has old windows with Gothic round arches. Villa Capra Bassani was built there in 1764 by the architect Count Orazio Capra as a neoclassical villa and is clearly inspired by Palladian architecture. Villa Saugo Belmonte stands on the summit of Belmonte Hill and offers panoramic views.

Historic Sites and Educational Programs

In the municipality of Sarcedo, Villa Franzan al Barcon was built in the 1660s and 1670s and served as the summer residence of the Collegio delle Dame Inglesi di Vicenza from 1876 to 1907. Villa Ca’ Dotta houses a multimedia laboratory and an educational center. These are supplemented by health-promotion programs in the form of multimedia learning laboratories for children and young people aged 11 to 19, as well as for parents, teachers and educational professionals.

The Museo archeologico dell'alto vicentino has an exhibition on the Late Roman necropolis of Sarcedo. Between 1988 and 1989, 22 graves were discovered, dated to the 4th century AD based on the grave goods. The municipality of Sarcedo also contains a fertile landscape of hills and partly flat terrain at the beginning of the Pre-Alps; to the east, it is bounded by the Astico River.

Hills and Rural Trails

In the municipality of Sarcedo, the 8-kilometer trail leads through the surrounding hills and rural landscapes and includes the old Church of San Pietro di Bodo. The Anello Ca’Bosa – Villa di Bodo is a paved circular route: it leads from the western agricultural area up Bodo Hill and runs through rural landscapes. The circular route is intended for hiking, running and cycling. Strada della Ca’Terza, on the other hand, is an unpaved trail between cultivated fields with views of the hills of Sarcedo.

Routes for Hiking, Running and Cycling

In the municipality of Sarcedo, Via dei Cogoli – Via Costa – via Colombara forms an almost completely paved section of a circular route. It connects Zugliano with the center of Sarcedo via the Cogoli ridge and is intended for hiking, running and cycling.

Signposted Distances

The municipality of Sarcedo has a permanent hiking program consisting of three signposted hikes. The program includes routes of 8, 12 and 20 kilometers. A 21-kilometer circular route passes the old Pieve di Santa Maria and the district of the same name before continuing to the neighboring municipality of Zugliano.
