Petrizzi between history, beaches and Monte La Rosa

Petrizzi is home to historic buildings; several beaches are located in the surrounding area, and a path leads from the starting point at Trinità towards Monte La Rosa.

The convent and its adjoining church

The Convento di Santa Maria della Pietà was probably founded in 1510. The building also meets Italian accessibility requirements. The church attached to the convent is now a ruin.

Palazzo, chapel and historic water supply

The Palazzo dei Duchi Marincola was built between the end of the 16th and the beginning of the 17th century with the features of a fortified castle. The Chiesa della Santissima Trinità dates from the 16th century and was built as a chapel for the Duchi Marincola. The palazzo and chapel are therefore jointly associated with the Duchi Marincola. The Fontana e Monumento ai Caduti complex dates from the 18th century. Its original function was that of a cistern for collecting and distributing water. This water was brought from Monte La Rosa via an aqueduct.

Patronal festival and the history of olive oil

The patronal festival dedicated to Petrizzi in honour of Sant’Antonio takes place on the second Sunday in August. The Antico Frantoio di Petrizzi is a traditional olive mill. Over the centuries, it played a decisive role in olive oil production.

Beaches around Petrizzi

There are several beaches in the surrounding area of Petrizzi. These include La Spiaggia Della Galleria, Spiaggia di Montepaone, Spiaggia di Soverato and Spiaggia Caminia.
