Paths through the Pine Forest
The Pineta di Ogliastro Marina is a nature park between Piazza Giovanni Paolo II and Lungomare delle Tartarughe. Its nature trails are suitable for walking and cycling. The “Antica Oliarola” trail is a 0.4-kilometre path through a pine forest in Ogliastro Marina. It runs along an old unpaved path and the sea-facing side of an Aleppo pine forest. At the same time, it connects Lungomare delle Tartarughe with Piazza Giovanni Paolo II.
The “Ogliastro Marina-Pozzillo” trail is approximately 8.6 kilometres long in total. The different lengths of the two trails help you assess the possible distances for your personal planning without presenting them as a single excursion. In the centre of the Ogliastro Marina district, there is also Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, a panoramic terrace overlooking the sea.
Heading towards Punta Licosa
The road with restricted access to Punta Licosa begins at the end of the road leading to Ogliastro Marina. Punta Licosa can also be reached by sea by docking at the harbour. In the Lago district of Ogliastro Marina, all beach sections have signposted access roads. These different geographical references are helpful when you want to distinguish between coastal paths, a harbour and access roads to the beach sections.
Family-Friendly Setting and Coves
Area giochi Ogliastro Marina is a free children’s playground near the sea in the Pineta di Ogliastro Marina and is accessible at all times. This provides a specific place for trips with children directly connected to the sea and pine landscape. The municipality of Castellabate also has natural coves of pebbles and rocks between the sea and the Mediterranean scrubland. This adds landscapes shaped by rock, pebbles, sea and scrubland to the coastal scenery.
Towers and Ecclesiastical History
The Torre di Ogliastro, also known as Torre Ogliarola, was built in 1569 as an Aragonese watchtower at Punta Ogliastro. The Torre dell’Arena, also known as Torre della Marina di Ogliastro, was built in 1592 as a watchtower in Baia Arena. Both structures are therefore part of the coast’s historical landmarks, without this implying any current function or accessibility. Chiesa Santa Maria delle Grazie was built in 1896 on the site of an existing 17th-century chapel. Together with the panoramic terrace of Piazza Giovanni Paolo II, this creates a townscape in which sea views, paths, pine forest and several clearly datable structures stand side by side.
