Trails through the Poderia landscape
The Valle Cupa and Pagliaro trails initially lead through fertile soils, olive groves and maquis. They then transition into dry areas where lavender and thyme shape the landscape.
The Valle Cupa trail begins at the Santuario di Santa Sofia in Pantrato in Poderia and connects with the trail leading to the summit of Monte Bulgheria. The CAI hiking map describes a circular route near Celle di Bulgheria and Poderia that includes the Pagliaro and Valle Cupa trails.
Along the Valle Cupa, views open up over the Mingardo River as far as its confluence with the Torrente Serrapotamo. The route also offers views of the Gola del Diavolo, through which the Mingardo flows, as well as the ancient settlement of S. Severino.
The Monte Bulgheria Site of Community Importance covers 2,400 hectares and thus provides another geographical reference point for the landscape around Poderia.
Rural traces and a tour of Poderia
A typical iazzo stands along the Valle Cupa hiking trail. This is a rural building that served as shelter for animals and recalls the landscape's former use.
A tour of Poderia passes Santa Maria Assunta and continues through the old village. Old stone portals and visible medieval masonry details have been preserved there. The tour also reaches the old Santuario di Santa Sofia, where benches stand among centuries-old olive trees.
Historic sites in Poderia
The Santuario di Santa Sofia is a sanctuary in the Poderia hamlet. The described ascent of Monte Bulgheria begins at the sanctuary in Pantrato, which belongs to the municipality of Celle di Bulgheria within the Poderia hamlet.
The Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta is the parish church of Poderia. It dates from the 14th century and houses a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary dated 1770. The religious building thus combines medieval origins with a specifically dated work of art.
Poderia is also home to the partially ruined Cappella di San Michele arcangelo, a side chapel from the 16th century. The ancient site Area archeologica Roccagloriosa is located in the surrounding area. The cultural sites therefore have different geographical references: the sanctuary is located in Pantrato within the Poderia hamlet, the church and chapel are in Poderia, while Roccagloriosa is in the surrounding area.
Festivals and traditional cuisine
For the traditional Festa di Santa Maria Assunta, religious and secular events were announced for August 14 and 15, 2026. A procession with the statue of the Virgin Mary through the town was also announced for August 15, 2026.
For the fourth edition of the Sagra dei Sapori Tradizionali del Cilento, traditional dishes such as fusilli al ragĂą, lagane e ceci and caciocavallo impiccato were announced from July 23 to 25, 2026, in LocalitĂ Pantrato, Via Santa Sofia, Poderia. Artisanal sausages, traditional desserts and wines were also to be included.
