The present-day parish church at the Parrocchia Santuario Eucaristico was inaugurated in 1885. San Nazario, a hamlet of San Mauro La Bruca, has a particular historical significance: the first inhabited settlement developed around a Basilian abbey dating from the 8th or 9th century. San Nazario was founded around the 11th century by Richerius, the abbot of Montecassino. In 940, Saint Nilus stayed at the monastery of San Nazario and became a monk there. In 1044, the Benedictine monk Richerius restored the old monastery of San Nazario.
The Cammino di San Nilo also passes through a landscape whose old paths are connected with the presence of Italo-Greek monks since the 7th century and the Byzantine rites they spread. San Mauro La Bruca was a pilgrimage destination for residents of neighboring towns for many years; hundreds of people walked there every year. The Sentiero dei Cavalieri di Malta is an old, 5-kilometer-long path connecting Rodio with San Mauro La Bruca and passing through Mediterranean scrub with streams and wooden bridges.
The panoramic Sentiero del Monte Bulgheria is a trekking trail offering views over the valleys and the sea. Another option is the excursion along the Fiume Melpi, which leads through fields and forests and is recommended for birdwatching and nature photography.
