Romanesque Heritage and Striking Villas

The Pieve di Santa Maria Annunziata e San Biagio dates back to 1096 and was built in the Romanesque-Lombard style. Particularly distinctive is its 12th-century blind arcade, considered the only example of such an arcade in a Romanesque building in the Bologna area. The Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo, a 16th-century church, is located in the Bagno di Piano district of Sala Bolognese. Palazzo Zambeccari, known by the nickname “Il Conte,” is also noteworthy. The rectangular villa-palace with four corner towers dates back to the 16th century and can only be viewed from the outside. The four corner towers are positioned at the corners of the rectangular complex. Villa Terracini can likewise only be viewed from the outside; it is open to the public during cultural events.

The History of Toys at the Museo Giocars

The Museo Giocars displays 700 unique antique toys on the theme of movement. The collection includes antique toy cars, tricycles, doll prams, rocking horses, levers, pedals and wheels. The museum thus creates a distinctive focus alongside Sala Bolognese’s sacred and historic architecture: movement appears here not as a sports theme, but as the subject of an extensive toy collection. The variety ranges from vehicles to mechanical elements such as levers and pedals.

Cycling Along the Reno

The Ciclovia del Reno (ER19) currently connects eight municipalities: Castel Maggiore, Calderara di Reno, Sala Bolognese, Argelato, Castello d'Argile, Cento, Pieve di Cento and Galliera. The route follows the Reno River embankment for 42 km. It is completely flat and suitable for every type of training. For a continuous cycling tour, the eight municipalities and the 42 km provide a fixed distance framework. The completely flat route is also a planning factor in its own right, as no climbs need to be taken into account when choosing the route.

Paths and Visits at the Ecomuseo dell’Acqua

The paths of the Ecomuseo dell’Acqua are freely accessible during the day on foot and by bicycle, provided that the signposted rules are observed. Guided visits are generally free of charge for groups and are possible by arrangement or on the occasion of events. Villa Terracini can only be viewed from the outside; it is open to the public during cultural events.

Fiera di Sala Bolognese

The Fiera di Sala Bolognese was established in 1988. It includes traditional agricultural and historical re-enactments as well as theatrical events. The Fiera combines agricultural themes, historical re-enactments and theatrical events within a single event setting.
