Villa di Serio among churches, parks and trails

Villa di Serio combines sacred art, historic buildings and expansive green spaces with trails that lead through the landscape. If you would like to combine culture and outdoor activities during your trip to Italy, you will find a variety of options here: the present-day Santuario della Beata Vergine del Buon Consiglio, Villa Carrara, the parish church, as well as parks, hiking trails and cycling routes.

Sacred Art and Historic Buildings

The present-day Santuario della Beata Vergine del Buon Consiglio was consecrated in 1904, replacing the previous building. Villa Carrara is a complex consisting of three sections; its sections were built between the 15th and 18th centuries. The stately rooms are elegantly decorated and give the ensemble its own distinctive historic character.

The parish church also preserves noteworthy works: it contains 16th-century frescoes. The sacristy also houses a banner of the risen Christ by Giovan Battista Moroni. The Cappella di San Lorenzo was built in 1768 and is used for Eucharistic adoration as well as a funeral chapel.

Parks and the Landscape along the Serio

The numerous parks of Villa di Serio provide around 400,000 square metres of green space, equivalent to 60 square metres per resident. Villa di Serio is one of the municipalities within the Parco del Serio Nord. This park stretches along the Serio River for a total of approximately 15 kilometres, complementing the local landscape with an extensive natural area.

Sentiero Natura through the Valle Capla

The Sentiero Natura extends for approximately 3 kilometres along both slopes of the Valle Capla. Signs identifying tree and shrub species accompany the trail; it also passes through several different habitats. Access is via Via Valeria, as far as a small stone bridge over the Rio Capla. In this way, the trail combines direct observation of nature with clear orientation around prominent landscape features.

Cycling Routes and Trails in the Surrounding Area

The Pista da Villa di Serio ad Albino crosses small bridges, runs alongside irrigation ditches and canals, and crosses the Serio via a cycling and pedestrian bridge. This bridge is suitable as a viewpoint for a short break. The route starts in Villa di Serio; at the starting point, you can leave your car and take the cycling and pedestrian route northwards.

From the route, you can return to Villa di Serio by bicycle or by the ValSeriana tram. For another trail perspective, there is the Vescovado Trail: it passes through the hills of Villa di Serio and Scanzorosciate. It begins at the riverside park between Villa di Serio and Alzano Lombardo and heads towards the centre of Villa di Serio.
