Bordolano: Art, River Landscape and History

Bordolano is located in the Parco dell’Oglio Nord regional park, a natural landscape shaped by river landscapes and biodiversity. The Santuario Santa Maria della Neve stands on a river terrace of the Oglio beside an old farmstead that preserves part of the medieval Castelmurato fortress. During the extensive restoration in 1672, the Santuario received a coffered ceiling, a small dome and four frescoes depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary: the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magi, the Purification of Mary and the Visitation.

Ponte Vecchio and Traces of the Fortifications

The Ponte Vecchio in Bordolano was built between 1880 and 1890. It is a rare example of a single-arch bridge and is regarded as evidence of industrial archaeology and civil engineering. In addition, two terracotta pillars from former fortifications dating from the 16th century have been preserved in Bordolano.

Villa Zaccaria and Its Park

The origins of Villa Zaccaria in Bordolano date back to the 16th century. In 1676, the complex was expanded and acquired its present form. The ballroom contains frescoes by the Florentine painter Sebastiano Galeotti. The villa is surrounded by a monumental park designed by Giambattista Zaist, which includes terraces and a geometric pool.

Festivals and Lombard Cuisine

Every year on 25 July, Bordolano celebrates the patronal feast in honour of the Apostle James with religious ceremonies, communal gatherings and activities organized by the local community. At the Santuario Santa Maria della Neve, local cycling groups and residents take part in the solemn festival on the first Sunday after 5 August.
