Dubino is one of the five municipalities included in the Pian di Spagna and Lake Mezzola Nature Reserve. The Northern Nature Trail begins near Dubino railway station, at Località Baletrone. It initially runs through agricultural land and then reaches the reed beds on the southern shores of Lake Mezzola. The sequence of cultivated landscape and waterside vegetation makes the trail a natural choice for anyone wishing to discover Dubino through its natural side.

Historic Buildings in the Town Center

The historic center of Dubino preserves old houses with wooden balconies and bread ovens. These details give the townscape a vivid, craft-oriented character. Dubino's main street also leads to the parish church of Parrocchiale dei Santi Pietro e Andrea, which was built in 1675.

In Monastero stands the Chiesa dell'Immacolata, which dates from the late 17th century. Inside, it is decorated with paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries. In Nuova Olonio, meanwhile, you will find the church of San Salvatore, which was built in 1903 in the Romanesque style. The three churches each offer different historical accents and are therefore suitable for exploring the area with a focus on their period of construction and style.

Churches, Mills and Distinctive Locations

The Church of Madonna della Cintura in Mezzomanico can be reached via a long staircase. Fourteen Stations of the Cross chapels are located along the sides of this staircase. The approach is therefore itself part of the religious site and distinguishes it from the churches located directly within the townscapes of Dubino or Nuova Olonio.

One of Dubino's significant historic landmarks is the watermill near Cascina Ambrosini. San Giuliano has a completely different character: this abandoned, scenic settlement offers a view of Pian di Spagna. Both places expand the historical perspective beyond churches and residential buildings to include earlier forms of rural life and a distinctive landscape viewpoint.

From Nuova Olonio, the Sentiero San Luigi Guanella leads to a nearby meditative loop trail in Pian di Spagna. The loop trail is accompanied by quotations from Guanella's educational philosophy.
