Gerola Alta combines the mountain world of Valgerola with winter sports, alpine farming and visible traces of rural life. Pescegallo is home to a small ski resort that extends from 1,450 metres to an altitude of 1,950 metres and is served by a chairlift and a ski lift below the Bocchetta di Salmurano. Local history on the streets of Gerola Alta

The hamlet of Laveggiolo preserves numerous still-intact examples of high-mountain rural architecture. The local architectural and ecclesiastical history also includes the parish church of San Bartolomeo, with its Baroque façade, and the Oratorio dei Confratelli next to the church, which dates from 1669.

In Gerola Alta, an ethnographic tour leads along the streets of the village and through its hamlets. It includes a cheese dairy where wheels of historic Bitto cheese are stored for maturation, as well as an antique loom that is still in working order in the historic village centre. The tour also includes a former water mill that once milled various types of grain. The so-called “canevel” refers to a small room where a watercourse was used to keep milk cool.

The “La casa del tempo” visitor centre contains evidence of Valgerola’s geological history, complementing the village’s cultural and historical themes with a view of how the landscape was formed.
