Lake and protected area

Lake Livigno is located near the town in Stelvio National Park and on the border between Italy and Switzerland. Sport fishing is permitted in Livigno on certain days during the fishing season.

Flow trails between mountain ridge and town

For cycling travellers, two flow trails define Livigno’s sporting character. The Coast to Coast flow trail runs from the summit of Carosello 3000 to Rifugio Costaccia mountain hut. It follows the mountain ridge separating Livigno’s main valley from the upper Val Federia. The Roller Coaster flow trail is the natural continuation of Coast to Coast: it runs from Rifugio Costaccia mountain hut down to the town, offering impressive views of Lake Livigno along the way.

History and local architecture

The church of Santa Maria Nascente, initially known as Santa Maria, is first documented in a record from 1325. The church, rebuilt around the middle of the 15th century, was consecrated in 1469. According to the municipality, Santa Maria Nascente is easily accessible and barrier-free.

The ethnographic MUS! Museo di Livigno e Trepalle is housed in an old dwelling representing local tradition. In an innovative tour, the museum conveys the customs and traditions of this distinctive area. In addition, traditional homes in Livigno preserve a wooden architectural style, often featuring an angular rustico. Their larch-board roofs are intended to prevent snow from sliding off.

Milk processing and regional insights

An audio-guided visit to Latteria di Livigno explains the various methods used to process milk and produce its products, including yoghurt and cheese. This offers another way to discover an aspect of the town that extends beyond its scenery and sports.
