Pedaso between Coast and History

Pedaso reveals its distinctive character where the coast, landscape and local history come together. The beach consists of pebbles, and natural rocks lie along its shore. The Parco della Villa Bruti Liberati contains a rare group of centuries-old oak trees. In the town centre and coastal area, it forms a green space of exceptional scenic beauty. The park is therefore recognized as a landscape of considerable public interest.

Beach, Walk and Coastal Waters

At the beach, the “Lungomare dei cantautori del XX secolo” follows the shoreline on a walk of approximately two kilometres. The route is accessible via underpasses dedicated to contemporary singer-songwriters. In this way, the route combines time by the shore with a cultural theme. Pedaso’s clear coastal waters have abundant marine flora and fauna and are particularly suitable for diving and underwater fishing. A cycle path begins at the mouth of the Aso River on the border with Campofilone and continues southwards.

Churches and Historical Traces

The town centre is also home to notable evidence from various periods. The Pedaso lighthouse was built in 1877, mined by the retreating Austrian pioneers of the German army, and rebuilt immediately after the war. The neo-Gothic church of Santa Maria e San Pietro Apostolo was built from 1897 to 1929. Its sacristy contains a Holy Family with the infant John dating from 1750, attributed to Filippo Ricci. The Chiesolina, dedicated to the Madonna Addolorata, was Pedaso’s only parish church until the beginning of the 20th century. The former seat of the municipal administration in the historic centre has a tower and a clock.

Landscape and Contemporary Culture

Pedaso’s various facets also include the BIMP – Biblioteca Interattiva Multimediale. It was inaugurated in July 2014 and is a contemporary cultural space for various uses. La Cupa provides a distinctive landscape feature: the remarkable rock fissure in the mountain is evidence of the landslides that occurred over the centuries. An astronomical observatory can be visited on the plateau of Monte Serrone. A highly powerful computer-controlled telescope is available there, powered by a photovoltaic system.

Seasonal Event and Local Reference Points

The Sagra delle Cozze takes place in Pedaso every year from 12 to 15 August, adding a fixed date in the annual calendar to the coastal themes. In Pedaso, the pebble beach with its seafront promenade, the coastal waters, historic buildings, parkland and the BIMP cultural space can be distinguished as spatial reference points.
