Montefalcone nel Sannio reveals itself through its history, religious buildings and the landscape within the municipal area. Some researchers identify the Mura Poligonali di epoca Sannita with the ancient Samnite site of Maronea.

Churches and Sacred Art

The Church of San Silvestro I Papa was founded between the 11th and 12th centuries and rebuilt in the 19th century. It houses wooden statues dating from the 15th to the 19th century, including a valuable 15th-century bust of Saint Anne. San Silvestro thus combines the 19th-century rebuilding with wooden statues, the oldest of which dates from the 15th century.

The Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie was founded in 1622. It was part of the Capuchin friars’ monastery.

Festivals with Processions and Local Traditions

During La Farchia, large wooden torches are lit and carried in a procession through the town’s streets. The burning torches symbolise the light that illuminates the night of Jesus’ birth.

The Festa patronale Sant'Antonio di Pavova culminates in a solemn procession through the historic centre. It also includes brass band concerts, performances, food stalls and fireworks. The festivals differ in their format: La Farchia focuses on the torch procession, while Sant'Antonio di Pavova additionally includes concerts, performances, stalls and fireworks.

Ancient Shepherds’ Paths and Landscape

The section of the Tratturo Ateleta-Biferno near Montefalcone nel Sannio makes it possible to explore ancient shepherds’ paths and largely unspoilt landscapes. Lago Grande, a locality belonging to the municipality of Montefalcone nel Sannio, has a picnic area. The narrow, paved layout of the centre contrasts with the largely unspoilt landscapes along the Tratturo.
