The walled Borgo and the Veglia area

In the old, walled Borgo of Giardina stands a chapel dedicated to Maria Assunta that is no longer in use today. The hamlet of Giardina belongs to the wider Veglia area.

Madonna della Giardina: Masses and ecclesiastical affiliation

Historically, Mass was celebrated at Madonna della Giardina on all holidays. During five or six summer months, Mass was also held there on weekdays; people from the surrounding area attended. The former use therefore included holidays and weekdays within a limited part of the summer months.

Historically, Madonna della Giardina was counted among the churches beyond the Stura that belonged to the area of Cherasco. The ecclesiastical affiliation thus referred to the area beyond the Stura and to the territory of Cherasco.

Roman traces between Veglia and Giardina

In the 19th century, several discoveries of Roman archaeological material were made in the Veglia-Giardina area. In the vicinity of Giardina lies a cremation necropolis located between Riva and Falchetto. It can be associated with settlements in the surrounding area of Veglia. The chronological reference applies to the discoveries of Roman material, while the necropolis is specified geographically by its location between Riva and Falchetto.

Historic roads to Savigliano, Marene and Cervere-Fossano

The history of Giardina also includes a historic road project. It was planned to run from the parish church of Veglia past Giardina and join the road to Savigliano. The planned route thus names the parish church of Veglia, Giardina and Savigliano as interconnected points.

Historically, a road connected the village with Giardina and led in the direction of Marene-Savigliano. Another historic connection led from Giardina towards Cappellazzo and to the main road to Cervere-Fossano. The direction of Marene-Savigliano thus stands alongside the connection via Cappellazzo to the main road to Cervere-Fossano.

Torino–Savona cycling route, Stage 1

The Torino–Savona cycling route, Stage 1, passes the Teitot and Giardina farmsteads. The two farmsteads are therefore specific reference points within the described stage.

On the Torino–Savona cycling route, Stage 1, the SS662 is crossed via a very short unpaved section with a barrier. When planning a ride, this change in surface should be taken into account as a separate section; the route then continues onto the road to Cappellazzo di Cherasco. This makes it possible to include the farmsteads, the crossing of the SS662 and the subsequent road section in the same stage planning.
