Cameriano between the Castle, Frescoes and Circular Trail

Cameriano can be explored through several clearly defined themes: early evidence at Castello di Cameriano, sacred art in Santo Stefano, the courtyards of Cascina Graziosa, the Pecorso 6 circular trail, and locally rooted festivals.

Historical Traces in Cameriano

The earliest evidence of the existence of Castello di Cameriano dates back to 989. In the mid-14th century, the structure was still functional. These two dates provide the history of the castle with a clear chronological framework. Cascina Graziosa is arranged around several courtyards. The film “La risaia,” starring Folco Lulli and Elsa Martinelli, was filmed on this farm complex in 1953. Several people from Cameriano and the surrounding towns also took part as extras.

Santo Stefano and the Frescoes

Behind the marble high altar, which was altered in the 18th century, the Chiesa Parrocchiale di Santo Stefano contains three of the church’s oldest frescoes. They depict two episodes from the life of Jesus and the martyrdom of Saint Stephen. The sacred motifs and their location behind the altar form a clearly distinct focus within the history of the town.

The Pecorso 6 – Cascina Graziosa circular trail can be used on foot or by bicycle. The choice of transport therefore changes how you travel along the circular trail, but not its route. It passes through the settlements and incorporates the “strade delle mondine.” Information panels explain their route with descriptions of monuments and several farmsteads. Cascina Graziosa is located in the territory of Cameriano, which belongs to the municipality of Casalino.

Festivals with Annual Dates

The Festa Paesana in Cameriano reached its 19th edition in 2025. The 41st Palio di S. Stefano was scheduled for September 13, 2026, as part of the Sagra paesana. In addition to the Comune di Casalino, AltrocheFeste Cameriano was also listed among the organizers. When planning around the festivals, a distinction must be made between the 19th edition of the Festa Paesana in 2025 and the scheduled date of the Palio in 2026.
