Tratalias between festival traditions, village history and Monte Pranu

Tratalias developed opposite the Gulf of Palmas. Its distinctive character is revealed particularly through two aspects: Sa Festa Manna and the traces of a history that has changed several times. Sa Festa Manna and the connection with the town

Sa Festa Manna takes place every year during the week that includes Ascension Sunday. A festively decorated tractor is used in its procession. On the Thursday before Ascension Day, the residents of Tratalias organise the return of the image of the Virgin Mary from Iglesias to the town. This sequence shows how closely the occasion is connected with the procession and the local community.

Cathedral, workshops and village history

The former Cathedral of Santa Maria di Monserrato was built between 1213 and 1282 and was the seat of the Diocese of Sulci from 1218 to 1503. Behind the cathedral, visitors can observe the craftwork being carried out in the workshops there at close hand. At this historic building, you can therefore encounter both ecclesiastical history and practical craftsmanship.

Understanding the history also includes the original village. It was abandoned in the 1980s after seepage from the artificial Lake Monte Pranu made the houses unusable.

Casa Spagnola houses the Museo del territorio trataliese. It preserves the cart used during the Ascension procession of the Virgin of Monserrato. The museum thus establishes a direct connection with the procession and preserves a tangible object from this festival tradition.

The Nuragic complex of Is Meurras, with an enclosed village and a giants' tomb, is considered the most important archaeological complex in Tratalias. For visitors interested in culture, the range of subjects therefore extends from ecclesiastical history to early settlement forms.

Monte Pranu, activities and regional cuisine

Monte Pranu Park further broadens the range of attractions. In the park's natural oasis, you can go mountain biking along signposted routes; horse riding is also offered there.
