Prehistoric Heritage and Local Culture

Sini brings together prehistoric heritage, local olive-oil traditions, historic sites and a distinctive landscape. The Sini area is home to seven Nuraghi, which form part of its prehistoric heritage. The Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire has a notable front portico with round arches made of brick and stone. The area around Sini is also characterised by several mountains. Pitza Sinai, Monte Maiori, Bruncu Mannu and Cuccuru Mandareddu are mountains in the vicinity of Sini. The Parco Comunale di Cracchera lies at the foot of the Giara di Gesturi within the municipality of Sini. In heavy rain, the Su Strumpu waterfall can be seen from the Parco Comunale di Cracchera. This makes the waterfall a natural attraction whose visibility explicitly depends on the weather.

Olive Oil as Part of the Local Character

In Sini, old oil presses, millstones and avenues lined with olive trees bear witness to the continuing importance of olive-oil production. These features lead directly to a regional theme connected not only with the landscape, but also with the history of work and agriculture. Sa Moba de Aiaiu is a privately owned agricultural museum housed in the former oil mill of Raffaele Cau, dating from around 1935. The approximate date preserves the site's historical character.

Stories and Festival Traditions

“Contus de Pedra” is a project supported by the Pro Loco that presents Sini's orally transmitted folk legends in material form. As part of the Sagra de “Su pani Saba”, on 25 April at Sa Moba de Aiaiu, the bride is dressed for a re-enactment of “Sa Coja Antiga” or the groom is seen off. Alongside Nuraghi, the church and museums, traditional stories and festive customs are therefore also at the heart of Sini.
