A local specialty with its own festival

A distinctive specialty is the Cipolla Dorata di Banari. This local onion variety has been cultivated in the fields of Meilogu for generations. Its large, flat bulbs are characterized by a sweet, mild flavor. The Sagra della Cipolla Dorata di Banari began in 2003 to preserve the local agri-food tradition and promote the cultivation and marketing of the onion. Every year, the festival offers hiking and cycling excursions as well as activities for the whole family.

Banari's artisan tradition is also closely connected with the region's history. Banari has a documented tradition of producing terracotta utensils, which were sold in various parts of Sardinia. In Banari, visitors can discover workshops belonging to blacksmiths, leatherworkers and ceramicists. This makes the connection between materials, skills and local culture tangible in actual workplaces.

Contemporary art in a historic setting

The Museo d'Arte Contemporanea FLM is one of the town's cultural attractions: you can book appointments for visits and guided tours. Banari's contemporary art museum is housed in a 13th-century aristocratic palace. Here, the historic setting stands alongside the art, not in its place.

The Oratorio di Santa Croce is one of the area's sacred and historic buildings. It was built between the 16th and 17th centuries and has a red-stone façade. Banari's Palazzo Comunale was built in the first decades of the 19th century. Festivals and buildings in the surrounding area

The Carrelas in festa tradition takes place in Banari in December and includes typical products, traditional clothing and historic crafts. Another event takes place nearby: the Santa Maria festival is held around September 8, lasts two days and includes processions and celebrations in the church square. Santa Maria di Cea is also located nearby, a Romanesque complex built from dressed limestone blocks and featuring a bell gable. These different events and architectural forms show how closely religious celebrations, regional products and architecture can be connected without creating the same travel experience.

A landscape between trachyte and oasis

The hills of Corona Alta are characterized by trachyte formations. Banari's natural attractions also include the Badde Manna Oasis.
