Astfeld and the villages of Campolasta and Villa offer a rich combination of landscapes, trails and culture. Campolasta lies at an altitude of 1,021 metres where the Sarntal Valley branches into the Valdurna and Pennes valleys. In Astfeld, Campolasta and Villa, churches, a historic smelting works and a protected building are among the specific attractions. This allows you to combine your stay with walks, hikes and discoveries of cultural and historical interest.

Waterscapes near Villa-Campolasta

Near Villa-Campolasta, the Rio Valdurna flows into the Talfer River. The river travels approximately 12 kilometres to this point; the confluence lies at 1,010 metres above sea level. This landscape feature adds a waterside destination to the trails and historic sites, offering you another opportunity to explore the surrounding area mindfully.

Hikes with different focal points

The hike to the St. Valentine Chapel begins in Campolasta. Historically, the chapel was a pilgrimage destination. A walk of approximately 45 minutes first follows the footpath and then continues through the Winklerwaldl woodland to the well-known Saulegg Brünnl spring. The Campolasta–Winkler Waldl–Saulegg Brünnl hike is considered suitable for an outing with a stroller. Alongside the chapel hike, this provides a shorter trail explicitly designated as suitable for this purpose.

From Campolasta, a mule track leads to Monteganda/Gentersberg in about half an hour. The Church of St. Valentine there is decorated with frescoes from the 14th and 15th centuries. From Campolasta, you can also hike to Lago di San Pancrazio. Those who prefer longer routes can follow the valley circuit from Astfeld towards Durnholz as far as the Timpfler circular trail. Along this valley circuit, you can reach the little Erasmus Church from Astfeld; at the crossroads there, a visit to the quill embroidery workshop is recommended.

Churches and historic buildings

The historic smelting works in Campolasta was operated by the Teutonic Order. Metal ores from the Sarntal Valley, as well as silver ores from Terlan and Nals, were processed in the Campolasta smelting works. Haus Schussbrugg offers a different insight into the local history of architecture: the protected 16th-century building is located in Campolasta and has been preserved in its original form. In Villa, the Church of St. Nicholas dates back to 1367.

The churches of St. Erasmus also have their own distinctive features. The Church of St. Erasmus in Campolasta dates from the 18th century, is dedicated to St. Erasmus and features ceiling frescoes. At the entrance to the Church of St. Erasmus in Astfeld, an eye of God venerated by angels serves as a symbol of the Trinity.

Craftsmanship and regional tradition

At Peter Ainhauser's workshop in Villa, you can discover the Sarner Reggele and Sarner traditional costume cutlery. The Sarner Reggele is a traditional pipe used by farmers in the Sarntal Valley. The nearby Mesnerhof is also located along the outing to the St. Valentine Chapel and offers an opportunity to stop for refreshments.

For cyclists, a mountain bike tour from Campolasta to a mountain pass is possible. The various trails, churches, workshops and historic sites thus offer several ways to experience Astfeld and its surroundings.
