Siusi: Experience the Schlern, Seiser Alm and history

Siusi lies at the foot of the Schlern and the Seiser Alm. From Siusi, the Seiser Alm can be reached by cable car. The Oswald von Wolkenstein Trail begins at the valley station of the Seiser Alm cable car. The starting point for the ride up to the Seiser Alm and the beginning of the themed trail are therefore located at the same valley station. For a planned day combining a mountain railway and a trail, this point in Siusi is clearly defined.

Trails with different themes

Around Siusi, there are the themed trails Gumperer Trail, Mushroom Trail, Geologists’ Trail, Oswald von Wolkenstein Trail and Geomeile. The Oswald von Wolkenstein Trail has 15 play stations. Those specifically looking for play stations in Siusi will find them on the Oswald von Wolkenstein Trail, one of the five themed trails.

The Ratzes Kneipp facility is fed by fresh spring water and offers Kneipp applications in the walking pool as well as in the arm and face pools. Three pool areas are the focus in Ratzes: the walking pool and the arm and face pools. The Kneipp facility thus adds a water treatment to outdoor exercise. In Ratzes, alongside the themed trails, the Kneipp facility places its own emphasis on water applications and outdoor exercise.

Nature Park House and Bus Station

The Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park House is located directly in the center of Siusi, about a two-minute walk from the bus station.

Churches and Castle Ruins

The parish church of the Holy Cross represents a clearly datable part of the local history: construction began in 1937, and it was consecrated in 1950. The first mention of the church of St. Vigil dates back to 1260. After it was destroyed by a landslide and rockfall in the 15th century, it was rebuilt. Holy Cross, with construction beginning in 1937 and consecration in 1950, belongs to the 20th century; St. Vigil was first mentioned as early as 1260.

The two ruins, too, take visitors back to earlier centuries. Hauenstein Ruin was built in the 12th century; one of its owners was the minnesinger Oswald von Wolkenstein. Salegg Ruin also dates from the 12th century and passed into the ownership of the Wolkenstein dynasty in the 16th century. Both ruins date from the 12th century; in the case of Salegg, the change of ownership in the 16th century is an additional historical detail. Those interested in culture encounter both churches and castle ruins in Siusi.

A Landscape with Its Own Character

At Karlotten Kofel, the thermal properties of the lava rock and the exceptionally sunny location create surprisingly Mediterranean vegetation. Karlotten Kofel also offers a view of the Schlern massif and seven church towers. For observing the landscape at Karlotten Kofel, rock, vegetation and the distant view are all visible within the same vista. The seven church towers complement the view of the Schlern massif with clearly recognizable structures in the landscape of Siusi.

The St. Vigil Seis golf course is located between Völs and Seis am Schlern, at the foot of the Schlern.
