Lake Reschen and the history of Resia

Reschen am See can be experienced through its water, trails and distinctive local history. A large part of the old village of Resia was flooded in 1950 when the artificial lake was created. Lake Reschen is therefore not only a landscape, but is also connected to the history of the former village.

Getting around the lake

The 15.3-kilometre Giro del Lago di Resia circular route runs along the shore of Lake Reschen. You can use it for walking, cycling or running. Around 80 percent of the route is paved; the remainder is unpaved.

For an easier outing, the Belpiano–Malga San Valentino panoramic trail is a good option. It is easy and suitable for families. If you would like to compare different trail lengths and types of activity during your trip, Lake Reschen offers both an extended circular route and an explicitly easy panoramic trail.

Mountains and destinations in the surrounding area

Several peaks lie in the immediate vicinity of Resia: Klopaier Spitze, Plamorderspitze, Bergkastelspitze and Großmutzkopf are all summits in the nearby area. When planning your trip, you can therefore focus your stay on the lake or also take the surrounding mountain landscape into account, without linking individual peaks to a specific route or accessibility.

Summer on the water, winter in the landscape

At Lake Reschen, sailors and kite surfers make use of the summer winds for their activities. In the colder season, winter activities in Resia include a cross-border cross-country ski trail, groomed winter hiking trails and snowshoe hikes towards Pian dei Morti. Summer water sports and winter trails thus shape different sides of this destination.

Understanding the location and how to get there

Resia is located one kilometre from Passo Resia. Passo Resia was already an important Alpine pass in Roman times. The Belpiano cable car provides access to hiking trails and mountain-bike trails. Resia can also be reached by public transport from the north, west and south.
