Nibbiaia with High-Altitude Trails, Panoramic Views and Culture

Nibbiaia originated in the second half of the 18th century as a rural settlement along the ancient Vajolo ridge road. This led from Castelnuovo towards the sea near Quercianella. Its historic route links the rural settlement with a route towards the coast. From Nibbiaia, there are views across the Tuscan Archipelago. The panorama expands the connection with the village to include a wide view of the sea.

Trails through Forests, Farmland and Old Roads

A bridleway begins in Nibbiaia and leads through the entire municipal area. On the way to Montenero, Sentiero 00 climbs through wooded and agricultural sections towards Nibbiaia; along a paved section of an old road, it leads to the Monte Carvoli hilltop fortress. The bridleway therefore extends across the municipal area, while Sentiero 00 follows a specific route to Montenero and the hilltop fortress. The nearby Parco dei Poggetti stretches from the eastern slope of the hill on which Nibbiaia stands to the S.S. 206. The park is crossed in its entirety by Sentiero 00 and the Ippovia del Mediterraneo. For a hike along this section, the ascent and the paved part of the old road are specific trail conditions.

Church, Mural, Castles and Museums

Art and local history emerge in several forms in Nibbiaia. The Wonderwall project created the mural La Strada by Oblo Creature in Nibbiaia. The Chiesa di San Giuseppe in Nibbiaia is located on the historic route from Nibbiaia to Monte Nero, now called Via Saffi. On 20 November 1864, the church was dedicated to the Madonna del Buon Consiglio and Saint Joseph. Castello Sonnino is located in the area around Nibbiaia and is a castle. Castello Pasquini is also located in the surrounding area and is a castle. Villa di Odierna Roberto is located in the area around Nibbiaia and is a museum. Amici Di Castiglioncello is also located in the surrounding area and is a museum.

Beaches and a Cycling Tour

Cala del Leone, a beach, is located in the immediate surroundings of Nibbiaia. Spiaggia di Calignaia is located in the area around Nibbiaia and is a beach. Bagno Aurora is located in the area around Nibbiaia and is a beach. Bagno Ausonia is also located in the surrounding area and is a beach. From Nibbiaia, the cycling tour leads via Aia della Vecchia to Chioma and continues along the coastal strip towards Castiglioncello. At kilometre 46.8, the cycling tour reaches Nibbiaia again. The coastal section of the cycling tour thus connects the route via Chioma with the direction of Castiglioncello.
